View Full Version : In Dash VIDEO System in my E36

purchased a 7" in-dash flip out lcd screen for my e36 (ebay $140). The radio slot is already taken by my aftermarket head unit. I was going to try and install it (DIN size unit) under the OBC or perhaps take out the OBC all together. Any tips ? Is there ample size (in terms of depth) to install another radio-sized unit (the video screen) in this space ?

the only way to do what you want is to take the climate control and move it to the sunglasses pocket - or remove the obc and put it somewhere else altogether and move the climate control there, and then depending on the depth of the screen, put it where the climate control once was. although some units don't fit in that space.

basically you need to re-locate your aftermarket head to the glovebox or under a seat to use that screen.

cant you put the OBC in the armrest?

im getting ready to do this install also, and im looking at options... what about routing the audio to the stock deck? Do you have to take out the cd changer?

you can put the obc wherever you can extend the cables to and it will fit. you could mount it in the glovebox door, or under the dash, or in your door map pocket - wherever - center console is good though.

routing audio?
changer?

I put my OBC up in the Radio's place...had to extend the cables, but it works perfectly. Might be something you want to try?

head on over to mp3car.com - there are a few guys making mac-based software, but so far i believe it is pretty limited compared to the pc software..

Haha...nope...my friend had that shift knob and he gave it to me...my favorite one. It's about as short as shift knobs get...

I could, but for the most part it looks exactly like the BMV2 skin. I just did some modificatoin for hardware I use (steering wheel controller (added after that pic was taken), temperature sensors, etc.), so probably nothing useful to you.

Do you have any pics of your install?

Xenarc 700tsv I think it is...

No new pictures, but here are a few. And what steering wheel controller? I haven't been on Mp3car in a while. If I could find a decent temp sensor program I'd get rid of my OBC and have an extra din for buttons. :)

I'm only running Windows in these pictures, and the autoenginity software.
