So...I bought the USA Spec kit for my car. Installed it so that the Ipod sits in the center armrest. The cable runs under the rear seat and under the carpet on the center hump. I love it.

I thought about that...but think I prefer the hidden route better.

AWESOME job...can you control that with your head unit or not?
Im not fermiliar with the Ipod scene, but i guess if you make playlists and plasy em random or something you never have to change songs. Sweet.

Thanks!
No...I figure that once I start playing my music or playlist...I will not need to change it much while driving. However, they (USA Spec) do make a kit that will allow you to control it through the stearing wheel controls. It was about $120. This kit was only $70.

It is very close to CD quality IMO. I did not use the BMW kit. That will only work on cars with a late 2002 and later build dates. (i.e. ones that have the Aux Input interface on the back of the Headunit)
I used this kit. I bought mine locally but as you can see below...Crutchfield carries it as well.
USA SPEC Auxiliary Interface (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ClHnUMYGTNF/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=227450&I=581DFBMW&search=BMW%2Bipod)
There is also this kit witch allows you to control the Ipod through your steering wheel controls.
USA SPEC iPOD Interface (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ClHnUMYGTNF/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=227450&I=581PA10BMW&search=BMW%2Bipod)
Both of these plug into the CD changer pre-wiring in the trunk. So...if you have a CD changer...you will not be able to use it. Unless you can come up with a new and better solution. I did not have a changer...so mine was simple and easy.
You will also need to purchase a 7ft+ (10ft would be better) RCA to Mini Plug cable to run from the box to the location of your Ipod.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
