:help Well I have been looking for a used X5 for about 3 weeks - I originally wanted a 2002 or 2003 X5 3.0 with under 35K miles for under 35K dollars. Over the weekend I found a 2001 X5 4.4 with 20K miles for 31K dollars - is this a good price? It is from a BMW dealer and they are putting it through their CPO program now so it will have a 2 year 50K mile warranty.. Overall it is extremely clean except for a 3 inch scratch on the rear quarter - the dealer said they would fix it for an additional $800 - should I have it fixed or just touch it up..

Also, how is the mileage compared to a 3.0 X5 - I commute 20 miles a day each way to work..

the X5 3.0L with auto is rated at 16/21 MPG, The X5 4.4L (through 2003) is rated at 13/17. The 2004+ X5 4.4 with the valvetronic engine and 6 spd auto is rated at 16/22

You might want to consider a new one. BMW has very aggresive leases on the X5 3.0 (0.001 Money factor or 2.4% and 59% residual on a 36 or 39 month with 15K miles per year) . The X5 4.4 has the same resiudals, but with a money factor of .0075 or 1.8%).

Don't forget a new one has scheduled maintanence too.
