BTW, Im a newb so heres my intor:
THe name is jordan, i own an 86 635csi that my dad gave to me when i turned 16, its black with tan interior and i love it to death. now the problem

Well the problem all started off with me driving 1 day and it just stalled...I was cruising about 50 or so and the car just died, i put it in nuetral(automatic) and try to start it. it cranks and cranks but just doesnt turn over... It not a battery issue cause it cranks more than hard enough ot start it...So i sent it to the shop and he messes with it, cleans some corrosion off the pcm, cleans osme of the wires, says its all fixed.

I pick the car up and drive it away, get to my house 10 minutes later and the car drove like a dream. I go to start it 3 days later and it wont start. So i try to start it every day after for 3 days and it cranks and cranks but nothing...

So my dad tries on the 4th day, he starts it without a foot on the gas, gets it running. He found that when he pushed the gas too hard it flooded and died, but would tsart baxk up... he drove it to a bmw specialist and stalled it quite a few times along the way.

So my question is, whats wrong with my sixxer? Please put in any info or suggestions or ideas of whatt he prob is, thanks!

a failing FPR(fuel pressure regulator)can cause a rich running condition.also clipped to the outside of the fuse box should be 3 relay's.2 of which are important, the main relay(5pin) and the fuel pump relay.the 3rd one is the O2 relay.check and clean ALL grounds in the engine compartment.
i just had a problem where i was throwing all my spare parts at it,and it ended up being the ECU.it would run,but would buck and backfire and had no power.

When in doubt of electrical issues - change the relays; change the relays...

next thing to do is get a new ECU/ECM for the car.

Intermittant start issues are usually caused by one of the 2 above. (this is assuming good plug wires, etc.

So i had the mechanic change the relays, it started atleast, idk, somwtimes it starts and sometimes it doesnt... I went to the shop, he showed me what he changed and all, so i took it for a drive...my dad said when he drove it if he gave it too much gas it died, so i started it off slow and then after a few hundred feet it seemed of so i went WOT...53mph, 2nd gear hits, i get up to a good portion of 2nd and didnt wanna jam the breaks so i slowed down... im dojgn a rolling stop past a stop-sign to make a uturn and it stalls and wont start....i crank maybe 4 or 5 times and stop cause i didnt wanna flood it, i pop the hood and poke at the relays, just pushing on them hoping they'll get a better connection...So after that it starts right up, given it was 4 or 5 minutes after the last attempt to start it... So i drive it regular back to the shop a few hundred feet away, as im slowing down to pull in im gojn like 5mph and it stalls, wtf? so we push it back into the shop, push on the relays and its still not starting...next we're changing the ecu...any tips(even re-suggest the ecu just to put in ur input)? Thanks guys and im putting in pics of me and my sixxer for ur enjoyment---hopefully i can get it running and take more

this is a difficult issue to diagnose.there's soo many variables.check for unmetered air,as in air leaks.the intake boot from the air mass meter going to the throttle body, all vacuum hoses,ect....
nice 6 btw!!

Pretty much what was already stated. If the main and fuel relays on the outside of the fuebox are good and making connection, then vacuum leaks near the throttle body are a good place. Check the rubber intake boot for cracks, especially near the clamps on either end.
You might want to have a known-good ECU to swap in, so you can eliminate that possibility.
Also is possible that the high pressure fuel pump is failing or the AFM is going south on you.

You might also want to check the coil, and wires. I have had various starting problems with my '85. Once, coil wire had burnt off inside the boot, sometimes would start, sometimes not, sometimes kick like hell, sometimes, run smooth. Antother time, the connection to the ECU killed it, I took all sorts of things apart, but it was when I discinnected the ECU, cleaned the contacts, and put it back together it ran great. You've got an intermittant problem that should be obvious when you find it. Good luck.

Hi, guys. I need help, too.

I recently was gifted my uncle's 1985 635CSi. That car was only recently revived (and has been rewired) and was driven from Atlanta, GA all the way to West Palm Beach, FL. It's beautiful. After I've had it for several days, the ignition switch suddenly wouldn't turn over the engine. Nothing happens, not a click, nada. I though 'twas a starter problem and purchased one from Advanced Auto Parts, who recommended a shop across for installation. It was checked and nothing was wrong with the starter. They told me power from the battery to the ignition switch to the starter was lost and they couldn't make sense of the wires. Battery's good - it powers everything.

Since then, I've had AAA take it to two other shops specializing in foreign makes and they both surrendered after taking one look under the hood at the bundle of wires. They were very upfront in saying although they would try to fix it (and expect to be paid for labor), they couldn't guarantee repair.

Why not? It should be a simple thing just tracing wires, right? Can somebody please provide information on a good electrical shop I can take my car to (in South Florida, that is)?

Thanks in advance. Drive safely, guys.
