I just purchased a 2004 BMW X3 3.0 (CPO) with the Premium pkg, and navigation. I took it to the dealer and asked if they could activate the bluetooth (I have a Motorola v600 w/ bluetooth). They told me since I have the SOS button (BMW assist), I'd have to pay $1000 to add a special bluetooth module ($700 for the part + $300 labor).

That really doesn't make sense... so I have bluetooth, but it doesn't work because I have BMW Assist?

The short answer is that there is no BT in the 2004's TCU unless the previous owner paid to update the HW. The tag in the glovebox is isncorrect on this point. Search for threads here and at other forums and you'll read all the details.

Ot the other hand, you should have BMW Assist if you want to switch the acct over to your name. Press the button and give them a credit card number. They'll be happy to take your money and set you up.
