Hi, I recently purchased a CPO '04 X3 (with Prem. pkg, auto trans, Xenon lights, prem. sound, and nav sys.). I took it to the dealer and asked if I could have it programmed to make a sound when the doors lock. He said I couldn't because I don't have an alarm system. It has the red light under the rear-view mirror, doesn't that mean it has an alarm? Also, isn't it possible to program it to make an sound to acknowledge the door locks (like it says in the X3 manual) without arming the alarm system that I don't have?

I could be mistaken, but you do have a security system (the red light) but it's not like an after market alarm system. You can have it programmed so the ambers flash when you lock or unlock it but I don't think there is any sound involved.

Have you tried holding the lock and unlock buttons down for a few seconds? That's the typical way to switch to "sound" when locking/unlocking....at least it has been in other BMWs I've had....but then they've had security systems....hmmmm......

There is no sound on the X3 unless you buy a BMW alarm system and get it installed. The most the car will do is flash the corner lights and the red light below the rear view mirror will flash and those you have to get programmed from the dealer when you lock and unlock the doors.

These are some features I had the dealer program for my X3 that should be FREE. Do not pay for the trouble of having them set it up. They will need both remotes.

1) Have the light flash when the door lock/unlock and the red dome light flash when car is locked.

2) Have the doors Autolock when you reach 5 mph.

3) Turn on the memory seats to work with the remote controls. Each remote will automatically change seat and mirror settings when you unlock a door if you made a custom button on the driver seat to work with that individual remote.

4) Turn on the passenger mirror to auto tilt down when vehicle goes in reverse, if it's not already on.

5) Have the auto rolldown feature enabled for all the windows and sunroof. When you hold down the unlock button for 2-3 secs it will automatically unlock the doors and unroll every window in the X3 and open the sunroof completely.

There are more features but those are the ones I got enabled.
