We know one of the salesmen at Palm Beach Motor Cars (jaguar, astin martin, land rover, lotus dealer), and he was showing us a DB9. My dad and I were saying how nice it was when the salesman OFFERED the car to my dad to drive. Obviously he says yes, and the salesman brings the car around. Now... There is a glass start button in the middle of the upper console. You put the key in turn it into the "on" position, and the start button glows blue, than red; once its red you hit it and the car barks to life (orgasms everywhere...). So we take it around West Palm Beach to get oriented with the touchtronic (automanual-- not F1 because it has a torque converter). Than we hit I95. For those familiar with the area, we took okeechobie west to 95 south, on that huge banked ramp-- at about 65. The car held flawlessly with no dipping. Once on 95, in 5 gear, after checking for police, my dad drops it into 3 and lets it rip... the force it pushed me back into my seat was (honestly) equal to that of taking off in an airplane. It was simply awesome. After a few accell runs, we turned around by going through PBI (airport)-- there was a speed bump at the pick up terminal, and we were going very slow, so my dad dropped it into 1st, and the revved to about 3K-- quickly, and quite loudly. About 25 people stopped to look, and we got many thumbs up. So after hopping back onto 95 for about 2 miles, we did one run to 100 (from 60 in about 5 seconds... maybe less?) and that was it.
The car is astouding. Perfect in every respect. Beauty, workmanship, quality, unique-ness, comfort, and most importantly-- performance. The gauges are like a fine watch, the seats hug you like they were molded, the ride was firm but not overly harsh. The transmission was amazing-- the torque converter automatically matches speed when downshifting by going to the exact higher RPM in the gear that has been downshifted into (instead of a true F1 where the engine would not match, and would slow down the car abruptly-- like a true manual as well). 450 hp, 420 lb-ft, 6.0 V12=smooth and very fast.An incredible day... now we need to get one in the garage :redspot :buttrock
**side note... it's funny- we went to a nissan dealer and asked to drive a 350Z (mind you, my dad drives a 996 cab. w/ 18" sport classic wheels, so obviously he doesn't look like the type that would do something terrible to the car...) and the salesman says no. We pull up to the Astin Martin dealer in our (very sexy- pearlescent white) lincoln towncar rental, and the salesman asked my dad if he wanted to drive one. I just thought that was funny.
