what are the differences between the CSL and M3 other than:

front splitters
front bumper
carbon fiber hood
rear special thin glass
plastic bootlid
cardboard floor boot
19" CSL rims
no radio
no A/C
carbon fiber seats and door trims
racing slick tires
alcantra steering wheel
carbon fiber intake (or is it an intake?)
front struct bar

is there any changes in suspension i.e: geometry changes etc?
is this mean you can virtually change the standard m3 to CSL spec?

you're forgetting the revised carbon fiber intake, the alpha N derived engine management, the different valves (not sure about that one), the revised exhaust manifold.

CSL has different headers

It doesn't have racing slicks, it has Michelin's DOT R-comps.

CF roof too - and probably has different suspension, steering ratio, and brakes/rotors as well.

Yes... 30mm lower, quicker steering ratio, front rotors are 1/2 in larger with associated calipers.

dang..i guess i should fold my m3-into-csl dream... but hell, there's like no way of getting my hands on the real one so...

completely different engine management, different airflow sensor and setup

i wonder if the head is different? i dunno

i believe they do come with A/C though

the head is not different.

They do not come with A/C or radio... but they are available at no extra cost as options.

but only a foul would get either one and drown the power or the exhaust note

Unless a car is strictly a track car, or you live in Antarctica,
buying a car without A/C or radio is just foolish nowadays.
You always have an OFF button...

The CSL is not a pure track car either. It's a street car with enhancements.
90% of the better track performance, no matter how many wonders
the CF roof does to the handling (the real raison d’ętre of this model)
is due to the Cup tires more than anything else. Put regular tires on,
and the difference in lap times is nowhere near as dramatic.

I've never understood the CSL. And even less why anyone in their right mind
would pay close to $100K for one. Ridiculous. Maybe collector value?
But to each his own... I'll take a GT3 anyday before this "jewel".

I'm pretty sure its next on impossible to do the CF roof conversion isnt it?

not impossible, infact it has been done already. Vorsteiner makes a CF roof in two version, with or without sunroof. here's a picture of Smoak5's m3, he recently did the conversion. :)

Its nice mentioning the 'Off button' but really the drag this puts on power is only part of the problem. The whole aircon system is a lot of extra weight. Thats why you can have it removed.

It makes more horsepower than regular, lighter than regular, and better tyres stock sure. Im doubting that only the tyres can be attributed to the performance, especially as stock m's dont come with cheap rubber in the first place. Dont knock it till you've had a ride in one.

Out of interest, does anyone know if the subframe is any better/reinforced?

I guess you've never driven on R-compounds? There is a huge performance difference between a good street tire and a good r-comp.

Naww, i only bitch about my continentals now:D

But as a point of interest, someone must have run a CSL by now without the r-comps..

As an aside- where does that extra HP come from?
Cams?
just exhaust/intake + tuning?

I think the biggest thing that helps it is the weight- isn't it down around 3050lbs or so?

Cams are the same as the standard m3's as far as I know.

It has a little bit more power, its a little bit lighter, the suspension/brakes are slightly different, and it has the PSC's. It all adds up, but put the cups on any other M3 and the gap between the 2 cars would get much smaller.

You mean the PS2's

No, he means PSCs ... Pilot Sport Cups.

Extra power comes from a revised intake, revised engine control unit and revised exhaust manifold.
