Ok The rear tires are shot :rolleyes My question would be, Should I get 2 more of the same tire for a matching set? They are Michlen Pilot Sport A/S or would it be a big deal to have say some Falken Azenis or Kumho Ecsta ASX/Supra 712's? At nearly 1/2 the price, Money is somewhat an issue.
Thanks for any input. :buttrock

Kumho is the worst tire you could possibly buy. Having owned more than one set I think I would know.

I've actually heard pretty good reviews on the MX's. The 712's, however, are crap.

I've got Azenis right now (RT615). So far, they've been pretty good. They're stickier than the MX's, I believe, and the sidewalls are stiffer, but the tread life isn't so great. I wouldn't get them if you do a lot of commuting, since they're loud, wear fast, and don't do so great in the wet.

I really liked Bridgestone RE750's I had. I believe they're priced about the same as the MX's. They have a longer treadlife, and a good compromise between comfort and performance.

With all that said, I'd only go with a matching set on all four corners...

Brian,

I replaced the E34 tires with the Falken Ziex ZE-512's after doing some research and finding some great ratings on these tires. I was slightly more interested in these due to their higher ratings for all seasons. They are a good tire at a reasonable price.

One thing I noticed with Falken's, they run smaller in size than my S03's did. Before you roll out of the shop, make sure the tire fits as you want or you may want to go with the next size up. I was a little dissapointed when I rolled out and noticed they didnt fill the rim as my SO3's did but could not return as I had driven on them.

Ok, I guess I will bite the $$$ bullet and get the good tread's.
Thanks again

Don't listen to Ben. He has no idea when it comes to tires. I have the Falken Azenis Sports and they are great. Treadlife kinda sucks but that is to be expected with such a sticky tire. The Kumho Ecsta MX is also really good. I have a few friends that have bought them and loved them. But I would stay away from the 712's. Like Johnny said the Falken Ziex 512's are a good cheap all season tire.

yeah, I use the falken zeix too and love them. I think I'll throw another set on if they dont come out with the Azenis in my size by the time I need tires.

Funny how us car guys are always planning our next set of tires. Most people dread buying new treads, but I usually put on freshies before I really need them :cool

Brian,

What is your budget?
Will you or your wife ever Track this car at all?

Have you looked at the OE Michelin pilots. (occasionally, I see them for a really decent price on tirerack.)

Thunder runs Goodyear Eagle F1's on his M3, he likes them.
JB runs Kuhmo MX's and they are an awesome value.

Yes there is a budget of $400-450.
We mostly need a All Season tire, It will prolly never see track time, But I would LOVE to giverago.
I was thinking of a full set of Kumho ECXTA ASX for the price of just 2 matching rear Michelin's...What to do :rolleyes
Any other thought?
Thanks

I'd rather go with Yoko ES100's than the ASX's. I've had them before, and they are pretty quiet, do well in the rain and the tread life is excellent. If you're never going to see track time, I'd probably go with either the ES100's, MX's or RE750's.

My personal choice would be BS RE750's.

If you are going to run them in the winter do not get the MX's. I'd suggest the Ziex 512's.

Here is how some Autox folks think about street tires:
1. Azenis 615
2. Azenis 215
3. Yoko Advan
4. Hankook z212
5. Kumho MX
6. BFG KD

I think the MX is almost as good as the S03. If you consider the price difference the MX is the way better deal.

Many thanks there Uli :buttrock However, I think I need a bit tamer tire ;)
I thanks you once again.
I will however keep this in mind when it comes time for a second set of tires.

Ok...
Search is over, I bought some Riken Raptors................... :D I was told they are made by Michelin and sold as another make?!?
I was kindof in dire straights, I needed some tires NOW and couldnt wait 3-5 Biz day's, We only bought the rear's and came in at about $275.. Mount and Bal.
Ive already done a burn out to get the sticker off, Michellewasnt too impressed :rolleyes
Thanks for all the help, I know I went with a brand noone has mentioned, But I was in a pinch, I went to 6 different tires palces and ALL needed to order accept Burt Bro's in Bountiful.
I will let you know what I think of them, But I dont see them being that bad unless they go tit's up in a few thou. miles

I dont know what to say...I seem to be getting mixed feeling's, Cam, I bought them FROM a Goodyear tire place ;) Here is about as much info as I can come up with, Johnny found a pic, But its the HP tire, Mine looks different....Maybe due to it being a UHP :devillook No relation..

http://www.urbanracer.com/articles/anmviewer.asp?a=1459

For thoes not in the know, It was pointed out to me on Sat. that the belts were showing on the rear's, I was bummed to find the solid center strip had worn through to the belts, Why I dont know, But I knew they were wearing quicker there than other area's, I checked the tire pressure every week or so, I just cant explain it :help
Matt, Sorry I couldnt get some good video, But I felt that the car just wouldnt be safe to do such a stunt and not have dire implications*sp
Have fun all

I think they are dismayed that you bought unknown (although, not exactly cheap) tires. I'd be willing to bet however that they'll be fine for what you use them for. You dont seem like the kind of guy who "abuses" his car or really uses 100% of available traction often. Let us know how you like em!

waffles just came out of my nose.

Brian, we are saying that Tires are one of the SINGLE most IMPORTANT aspects of a car's road manners and how could you go for the cheap stuff? I have owned lots of tires (way more than NICK) and Im telling you man. Cheapies are the GHEYS (like nick)

those tires arent "cheap" in my opinion, the price he payed seems comparable to Yokahama es-100's. Hopefully they are half as good as the Yok's.

I had yoko's on the wheels I bought and couldn't get rid of them fast enough, horrible tire. Ben is right, the tire can make the car, however none of us have any experience with the tires Brian bought, maybe he stumbled on something good.

I know tires are VERY improtant, Howeve, I am on a budget, I had $400 cash and figured I could go a bit over....Then in my travels, my budget was cut to $250....
I have done what I can.
I am the only one to blame for my tire purchase.
BTW Ben, I at least can buy a tire FOR a M3.....you cant even make a decision :devillook Paul is ALL over it....whats the hold up?
