View Full Version : Klasse AIO & Holographic swirls
Philo 07-31-2005, 01:01 AM I'm new to using a PC. I used it on my Black 4 Runner and had great results using Klass AIO and Zaino. So this afternoon, I tried it on my cosmos black M3. My M3 was in good condition but a dealer's wash had put some light scratches/swirls in so I thought I'd get it out with the PC and some Klasse AIO. It now looks great except for some holographic looking swirls from the PC in a few places. Any idea what I may have done wrong and what I should do to get them out?
Thanks!
hal9000 07-31-2005, 02:50 AM Pics...the PC should not have swirled your paint unless you had dirt in the pads. What pad and polish did you use? It's possible you didn't work the polish enough, but then you should have hazing, not holographic swirls (those are generally only created by rotarys).
Casebrius 07-31-2005, 03:00 AM did you try a water spritz to make sure it isn't AIO residue?
Philo 07-31-2005, 03:48 AM Pics are difficult. It's subtle and light has to hit it at the right angle. As for what I used... a sonus green pad with Klasse AIO...
Water spritz? Not sure what you mean here. Would you please explain.
Thanks!
Steve530 07-31-2005, 11:36 AM The water spritz that Casebrius mentions is spraying the pad with water before beginning. Since you don't use much AIO, most of the pad starts off dry. This helps to distribute the AIO.
The green pad was probably the right choice.
Maybe you should try to apply some AIO by hand on a small area to see if the hologram goes away. That might work if the problem is a buildup of AIO instead of scratches.
Otherwise, you could try to use a finishng pad with some AIO. Or clean the green pad well and try it using less pressure, more AIO.
Philo 07-31-2005, 11:40 AM Thanks. I'll give it a try and see. On a related note, what's the best way to clean pads? I've washed mine by hand using dawn.

Yea, that's what I do. It's a good idea to soak them for 10 or 15 minutes first.
Casebrius 07-31-2005, 08:51 PM actually i meant spritzing the paint where the haze is to see if the AIO is fully buffed off. Water or a non alcohol, non Carnuaba QD should work too. Worst case, you can take some AIO on a pad by hand and rub over where the haze is, the AIO will disolve itself and probably solve your problem. SG can be used like this too if your having a hard time buffing sections. Apply to a hand pad, wipe on tough section and buff immediately. It works well if you've left the SG on too long or applied too thick.
hamanncheese 08-01-2005, 04:27 AM Hey phil,
Try Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze. Has just enough bite for what youre looking to do. Or you can just call me up and i'll take care of you!

AIO->#80->SG/Zaino ? Does this work well? I've read some think durability is affected if SG is applied over a glaze. I've never tried it.

I would do #80->AIO->SG
#80 is more like a cleaner/polish than a glaze
hamanncheese 08-02-2005, 12:06 AM My favorite combo is #80 via polishing pad (speed 4.5) and NXT techwax via finishing pad (speed 3) :eyecrazy
Landerholm 08-02-2005, 12:16 AM I know what youre going through my car is black. A learning curve is definitely involved when starting to use a PC.
You need to hit this perfect place that comes after the product is completely broken down, and before it is all dried up. Experience will help you know what this is. To make this "perfect place" more forgiving, I spray some Final Inspection on the pad.
Just keep working at it -- I know it gets discouraging but don't give up. I had to AIO my car two or three times before it came out perfect under direct sunlight.
Philo 08-03-2005, 02:50 AM Thanks all for the advice. I took another quick pass with the PC on the problem spots and all is well now.
