i just did a full detail yesterday and took some pics tonight. i washed the car with meg's, clayed with mother's, then i used the 3M swirlmark remover, and put P21S wax on top of that. It turned out pretty good IMO and i'm a lot happier with the look and application of P21S over Meg's carnuba. I will be doing a full detail again in a few weeks because I have Klasse coming so i will get the sealant on before winter comes. anyway, here are some pics...

Looks good! If you take it to the same spot, closer to those trees, or even better, in between two of them you can get some crazy reflections going.

How does it look in the sun? Well done.

lol. You're geekin out about how clean it is now. lol.

I guarantee when you get your AIO and SG applied, you'll be shocked at how not-clean it is now.

looks great, btw ;). The Klasse will just blow it away, though. Especially on a car in that nice shape.

yea, i hope so. i'm really looking forward to it. i did the polish with some cheap $30 buffer cuz i figured it's better than by hand, but when i do it with klasse i'll be using a multispeed (also faster) buffer with a better polish and then p21s again. i'm doing it in about 3 weeks right before school starts so i'll post some pics again, although pics don't do the car justice, just give an idea.

Wow, excellent job. I wish my black 328i looked like that. I really need to detail mine. How long did the detail take you?

Off topic:

Are those Depos + Predator Thinlines? I ordered some from the Umnitza group buy a few weeks ago and I just installed them last week.

thanks. it took about 3-4 hours because i didn't clay the car. i just washed it, dried it, then polished, and waxed. the headlights are zkws... i'm not sure exactly what the name is since i bought them from a member on another forum. got pics of yours ?? i'm too lazy to aim them so haven't taken pics yet but will sometime soon.

Only 3-4 hours? Impressive.

I don't have any pics of my headlights yet, but I will soon. I still need to aim mine correctly too. But they look identical to yours. Your ZKWs are higher quality though.

Black cars look so good at dusk and at night. Do be advised SMR has fillers that will wear off. You may think youve been caring for the car poorly when swirls surface but it is just the SMR wearing off.

I am a definite newbie but have gotten into this recently - more than I expected. I have already put Klasse AIO on my car. Next I am going with the S100 wax (from what I have been told, it is the same as P21S).

My understanding is that Klasse is a cleaner/acrylic finish and will take off the wax. Can you apply the Klasse AIO over the wax, or should you remove the wax using something like Dawn, then apply Klasse, Klasse SG, and then wax for your winter routine?

many people suggest Dawn to get off the old wax and many, on the other hand, are so against it, they'll think you must be retarded to use dawn. personally, i've used dawn the first time i bought the car, and it seemed to really take all the wax off. the other times i've detailed my car, i just washed it with meguiar's gold class wash, then clayed, and then either washed and dried again, or went straight to polish/swirlmark remover. i think that you're fine either way, dawn or no dawn, as long as you use some kind of polish before AIO (even AIO alone might work) to take the old wax off completely.

Anyway, the next detail I will be doing in three weeks, I'm going to:
wash with Dawn,
then dry,
clay with mother's,
(maybe wash and dry again),
polish with 3M FI2,
then use AIO and then
put SG on top of AIO.

Every other day after that I will wash and dry my car, QD it with this acrylic spritz I got (Sonus) then add another coat of SG. after i have about 4-6 coats of SG, or until I can't see a difference in looks, I will add P21S a day or two after the last coat of SG, then just wash/dry/QD my car for a few months then do another detail before the really harsh winter hits.

sorry for the long post, to answer your question in short, people are 50/50 (from what i've read, and i've read alot) on either using polish right after washing with regular car wash, or using dawn and then polish. The way I look at it is that if the Zaino people suggest Dawn, and have the results that they have, it must be good. So go at your own risk, but I'd use Dawn to startoff the detailing. PM me or email me if you have any questions.

i used the cheap $30 orbital since i found it in my garage and figured it's better than by hand, but i'll be doing a detail within the next week using a dewalt rotary with klasse and p21s and it should turn out much much better than this.

yea i'll definitely post when it's done. i'm going to wait a week or so after doing the detail for pics so i can put a couple coats of p21s wax . thanks for the compliments :D sad part is, there's a pretty bad scratch on the hood now which makes me not want to take care of it as much but i just have to save up some money and get the whole hood repainted.

i got mine from autogeek. i forgot about the prices but i remember about 20 for AIO and about 25 for SG. it's really good, especially the AIO. oh, and P21S is a wax that works well with Klasse I guess, but also looks great with any product. good lucky

when you're doing checkout, at some point you will see them ask you for a coupon code, type in "clubmember", i think it's like 10% off. i applied both AIO and SG by hand but i've heard of people applying AIO with a machine, your choice. read the instructions on the bottles and you'll figure out how long to leave it on.. it's easy. let me know if you have any other questions

Looks amazing. Black looks amazing when detailed, but ugly as hell when they're dirty. FYI, mine's black. Anways, i haven't read the other posts, but definately get Klasse AIO. It is rumored to protect your paint for 4-6 months, whereas the P21 last about 1-2 months since carnauba isn't as durable as synthetic waxes. If/when you get Klasse AIO, apply the AIO first, then apply the P21 to add extra protection.

yea, i have already done the klasse detail but haven't posted photos at all. as far as protection, my hood has a scratch in it down to the bare metal about a quarter of a penny size, and a coat of klasse and 2 coats of SG have protected it for about 3-4 months now, no signs of rust whatsoever. plus it looks amazing on the rest of the paint.

Do you do the AIO then the SG or the other way around?

lecchilo
11-21-2005, 07:52 PM
AIO then SG. AIO is basically what it says... all in one.. so it's like a polish, cleaner, sealant and it works great. i used another polish (3M Finesse it 2) before aio just to take out some bigger stuff but i later noticed that aio picks up more of the smaller stuff, even behind the "real" polish. many others here are much more experienced do either do a search or just pm someone who you see knows their stuff in the show and shine forum. of course also feel free to bother me with any questions. hope that helps

btw... I used this Acrylic Spritz from some site (i can find it later if you want) and it worked great between all the coats of the Klasse stuff. it's basically like a quick detailer for wax but this is meant for acrylic, which is klasse products. the reason i liked it most is because when i went to take the SG off, after letting it dry for a couple mins, it would never come off completely unless i scrubbed really hard, and the acrylic spritz made it come right off and shined the surface. i figured rubbing my paint a lot is bad and tiring my arm a lot is bad so i just wiped off as much SG as i wanted/could, then just used the spritz

Do you do the AIO then the SG or the other way around?

Sweet ride! What are AIO and SG?

lecchilo
11-21-2005, 08:59 PM
thanks, i'm in school now and don't really have time to explain it but i'll send you a pm later if you want and generally explain what i learned about cleaning etc. read up on the threads in the show and shine section that are at the top of that forum section and you'll learn a lot from there. for now, they are both products of Klasse, AIO is an the "all-in-one" polish/cleaner/sealer that is used after a more abrasive polish and SG is just a sealant glaze that goes over the AIO after the car is fully detailed. 3-5 coats of SG is enough to give you the waxed look and protection for a long time(3-4 months) but many prefer to put P21S on top of the SG, that way it looks a bit better(to some people) than just SG and also protects the car even more because it makes the SG last longer. pm me with any more questions and make sure to read up the show and shine section. one warning though.. once you start reading about this detailing stuff, you'll be hooked for a while and your g/f or people close to you will get very very mad when you yell at them at the top of your lungs for half hour about putting a fingerprint on your glass after you just washed your car haha, ask me how i know :D good luck bro and sorry for the long post, hope that helped

Save your money and get the S100.. It's the same wax at half the price, and can be found locally at a Harely Davidson store... Or what I've come to recomend most of the time now is PB Natty's Blue, but if you're going for that truely special look and have the extra cash. Pinn. Souveran tops the rests.

Yeah I use the AIO on the white Lake Country polishing pad and then follow up with SG by hand. With SG I'll do about 1/6th of the hood at a time wiping it on and then wiping it off. Once SG dries it is a pain in the arse to remove. If it does dry just spray some QD on your MF towel and buff it out.

Hope this helps,
Andrew

How bad were your swirl marks that yo were able to get them out with a regular orbital. I ask b/c i have some pretty bad swirls and i have a craftsman random orbital buffer and i was wondering if i could use that with a good swirl remover such as the 3M or the Mezerna IP, then AIO, then SG and end it with P21s or S100. BTW i also have a black car cosmos to be exact thanks for the help

Which pads do you have...I'd start off trying the IP with a light cutting pad on speed 6 and see how it goes. Don't be afraid to use pressure if you need it (I'm guessing these swirls we'll be hard for you to get out).

Thanks for the Tips!! New to the whole PC buffing methods. I am never sure how much pressure to apply as well. I guess stuff like that will take experience to get down. when applying the AIO do you put just enough pressure to spread it or do you buff it in as well?
