View Full Version : Question about Klasse AIO and SG.....
FSUmac 07-28-2005, 09:51 PM Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question, I am new to the BMW ownership "aka actually caring about paint on my car" thing. I ordered some AIO and SG from autogeek last night due to the advice on this board. I know it has been said that you should put 2 or 3 coats of SG on your car after applying AIO, with 18-24 hours between coats of SG. My question is, do you need to rewash your car between coats of SG? If you are out driving for that time period, you might get some grime on your car and then seal it in. Thanks in advance for the help!
mmzcee 07-28-2005, 10:03 PM yes, you need to wash the car again or perform a QD spraydown, but the detailer shouldnt contain silicones or waxes, something like Meguiars Final inspection should do the trick.

yes sir
and for some reason my SG was a pain in the ass to remove after application? either i applied too much or i let it set too long (10 minutes)
Ahheck01 07-29-2005, 01:59 AM Tonight was my first AIO/SG Application. I've researched a TON though all over the place. I washed, clayed (important!), got the swirls out (3M FI2), used AIO (applied by PC using polishing pad on speed 2.5), buffed that out by hand right away (AIO is a WOWO product), then followed up by applying (by hand) the SG. The thing about SG is that it needs to be applied very VERY thinly. You should barely be able to see it. one to two ounces will cover your car if you do it right. if applied thinly on clean, clean paint, give it five or ten minutes and it should buff off easily by hand with a microfibre towel.
As far as cure time (time between coats), I've heard 24 hours, and I've heard one week. Because I'm very busy anyway, it works for me to wait a week in between coats. When I'm ready to apply layer two, I will wash and dry my car, give it a good look-over, and wash it again, focusing on the places I didn't do a great job of at first. Dry again completely, make sure none of the surfaces are too hot, and go ahead and start applying that next coat of SG. Remember, thin is the key. More doesn't improve your results. It's just wasteful and harder to get off.
cosM3os 07-29-2005, 09:53 AM You should wash between coats, that's why I wait a week between coats. 10 minutes is too long to wait--that's probably why it's hard to remove. I believe David recommends applying and removing right away.
yes, apply SG in thin coats
i didn't know about that and found out myself yesterday.
donoman 07-29-2005, 12:21 PM I'm gonna give you my experience with AIO...
You need to put a thin layer down but get good coverage. You usually don't have to buff it off... just practice getting such a thin layer than you don't have any excess after running it with the polisher (Portercable). When I do it, the AIO is almost all gone by the time I'm done polishing it, so I just make a quick swipe with the towel and that seems to be it!
Steve530 07-29-2005, 08:03 PM You really only need to wash the car between layers of SG if you drive it or it somehow gets dirty. I've done the wash/clay/AIO/SG process on Saturday. Then let the car sit in the garage until Sunday afternoon when I add another layer of SG.
Landerholm 07-30-2005, 03:11 AM I'm going to second the 10 minutes is way too long thing. People either do a PORTION of a panel (wipe on, wipe off) at a time, or do the whole car and then get it off with QD the next day -- because thats what it will take if you let it sit for more than one or two minutes.
donoman 07-30-2005, 04:40 AM A little tip: If you let the SG dry for too long by accident, just swipe it again with a pad of SG and it will redissolve. This time wipe it off quickly. No need to fight with the SG with a towel. Make it beat itself with its own solvent. :)
for some reason the SG made my car haze like a motherbitch...
Ever heard of this before?

If it's hazy, then either you left it from polishing or there's still SG on the car. Try wiping down with a QD. If it's still there, you're going to have to repolish.

Oh yea. I think it's common. At least it's happened to me and I've read a lot of complaints about SG hazing. Some people think it's realted to temperature or humidity, but no one really knows why it happens.
This is exactly the reason that some people chose to skip the SG after AIO and layer up with Zaino or four star UPP.
Ahheck01 07-31-2005, 12:20 AM It simply should not do that. If your paint is clean and shiny before you apply it, and it's hazy after you apply it and remove it, that means two things. First off, you applied too much or waited too long to take it off. Secondly, get out your microfibre towel and try buffing the hazing out by hand. If you can't do it without, spritz it with a non-carnauba based quick detailier, and buff it out.
Things to maybe change next time you use SG:
How it's applied (speed of pc, or by hand)
How much you apply (really really really thin!)
How long you leave it on before buffing it out
How you buff it out.
Here's my procedure for SG: Apply a nickle size amount to a terry cloth pad and work that over one or two body panels. Wait for a minute, maybe two, and use a microfibre towel to lightly buff it out, using more pressure only when the SG becomes stubborn to come off. Then wait 12+hours before coat 2.

Thanks. Appears I both applied too much and left it on too long.
I'll try to buff the haze out. If not, it's back to the polish.
Ugh!
325FLY 08-03-2005, 10:16 AM I too have had a lot of trouble with applying and removing Klasse, there is an application guide that I used that might help you (I kinda gave up on Klasse for the time being, at least until I have more time to mess with it).
Read this application guide and see if it helps... I know if you use to much of the product it hazes and streaks like crazy.
