It's slightly simpler even. And you can make a lot more than 400hp. Search this forum and do lots of reading. Or if you have a fat wallet, just drop it off at the shop with your car and come back six months later :) Good luck. padu 07-29-2005, 09:11 AM yes you can because i have one. non vanos is better the you think. Slap a headgasket on and boost away. Also for tunning aa makes a chip but i'm running tec 3 on mine. i'll be tunning next week i'll post #'s. I just have to finish the fuel system. I'm runnig to pumps and an external sump. then i'll hit the dyno. pic of last years setup. padu 07-29-2005, 09:13 AM tec 3 Vic is the man :buttrock padu 07-29-2005, 09:16 AM Also my turbo setup is custom. any Quuestion feel free to ask. I know i had alot when i started. :help Agaponi 07-29-2005, 04:02 PM Is it even possible to turbo/supercharge a non-vanos motor? I know many of you would ask "WHY?"...I'm happy with 300-400 I don't need 400+ hp... Anybody know? Yes you can... the M50 non-vanos has shorter rods (better for FI)... has dual valve spring, which can handle about 7500rpm no problem... hotter cams... And tuning is easier... The only thing you should be alert is that the M50 nonvanos dont have knock sensors, so becareful of pinging. I have AA SC with 85mm and special AA Software for 7000rpm... 9.5psi... and my car has 110.000 Miles... If i would do all again... i would go for AA Turbo... but the SC is VERY reliable... perfect for daily drive car... padu 07-30-2005, 01:51 PM knock sensor isn't that big of a deal. as long as you know whta to look for. :D F Dogg 07-30-2005, 07:47 PM padu: how much power are you expecting?? 92bimmer 07-30-2005, 08:01 PM how much would a turbo set up will run? what what brand is good? Paperboy415 07-31-2005, 02:46 AM Thanks you guys...now do you think it's worth it on a 150k engine? I will be overhauling the cooling system soon as well as ignition system shortly there after...call it an extensive tune up...just to prep for the mods I'm thinking about doing (suspension/brakes/brake lines/intake/throttle body/turbo (long run))...or should I hold off on the excavation and invest in a newer beamer? As I'm looking for the overhaul/replacement of stokc parts to run me about 1,000-3,000 dollars... I bought the car with 135k so I'm not quite sure of maintenance prior to me babying it...I guess I could rebuild the engine in a year (they offer a class at my city college as I'm going through all the auto courses to grab some ase certificates)... Any opinions? Paperboy415 07-31-2005, 02:48 AM You had said something about the fuel system...how could I prepare that pre-install turbo? **EDIT** I was looking at your picture...it looks like your exhaust manifold is stock...did you keep stock headers on as well? I see you moved your intake...did you have to relocate anything else/is it a major problem doing so? padu 07-31-2005, 02:08 PM padu: how much power are you expecting?? I'm trying for 400 and up. :buttrock padu 07-31-2005, 02:23 PM my manifold isn't stock,My intake is relocated yes. I have had everything redone the kit is setup that it l;ooks like a aa kit but realy it is different. if you see the waste gate i had it under the car. i came like that from aa but don't like the way they do the kits now. it was atached to the turbo. the waste gate was bolted to the turbo and the exhust pipe. side by side bolted not with a pipe like they do now. the thing sat so low. so i never had a port on the exhust manifold so i tapped into it. then i bolted the wastegate to the exhust manifold and ran i pipe straight to the ground. not into the exhust system. all piping was redone in ss and exhust 3'' full ss with v bands everywhere. also mounted a v band on the muffler so i can put a track pipe on when i want with out dropping the system. tec3 is now the managment. Ac was removed water injection is also being used. i am also using a wideband. i am wanting for my cartech mount so i can put a gt35r on ther car. i am runnig a slim fan on the rad. oil cooler also. i will be getting my fabracators to make a intake manifold for the car. As i stand right now i am getting the fuel sysytem done. i am running two pumps with an externial sump custom fuel rail areomotive fuel reg. i have lots of picks but i can't post because they are to large, i a week or so i will be hitting the dyno i'll keep everyone posted. also for people that asked i get 94 octane at the pumps in toronto. so i will run 94 on the street and my tuner is going to make a programe to run c16 at the track. i will be able to change from programe to programe. Paperboy415 10-05-2005, 08:14 PM ...I've gone to AA's site as well as Tuners site...Niether of them have a turbo set up for a non-vanos...Do turbo set ups have to be custom for the '92 or is there a kit where I can just rip my engine bay apart n' plop the turbo in + all the necessary parts of course...if so where can I find it? good & tight 10-05-2005, 11:11 PM I'm trying for 400 and up. :buttrock Please post your dyno results as I am planning on turboing the same engine for my E30 318i. Have you done any internal work on the engine or just thicker HG? redforcedbmw 10-05-2005, 11:15 PM Yes you can... the M50 non-vanos has shorter rods (better for FI)... has dual valve spring, which can handle about 7500rpm no problem... hotter cams... I'm not familiar with ASA...and is it a whole custom set up/move a bunch of ish around...or it's pretty straight forward? 5mall5nail5 10-06-2005, 09:29 PM Where did you buy it? I'm not familiar with ASA...and is it a whole custom set up/move a bunch of ish around...or it's pretty straight forward? I would buy a Vortec if I did it again. Its nice because its clutched at idle, but it was a pain, I had to make a bracket for it to fit. Paperboy415 10-07-2005, 12:48 AM Hold up...I don't even know who makes ASA nor Vortec...I'm not really big on the FI scene since I don't have money to play with that type of mod yet, but where can I check these two kits out? m3rdpower 10-07-2005, 01:02 AM Paperboy even if u went S/c the 325 runs strong. Paperboy415 10-10-2005, 01:31 AM The thing is...Where do I buy these applications? I can't find anything on tuner or AA or racing dynamics...n' various other websites...that's what I'm asking...
