Well I was driving today and ran into a weird problem. When I push my clutch pedal down it sticks to the floor. Even if I only push it down partially the pedal sinks down to the bottom of the floor. The fluid is to the top and the clutch engages normally at first. The clutch will disengage when I let off the clutch pedal, but then it drops down to the floor and I have to pick it up off of the floor. Needless to say this makes shifting a BIG pita. Anybody got any ideas what the problem may be?
Well I just went out and checked the car and the pedal just goes to the floor and the clutch doesn't engage at all. There's no fluid leakage from any part of the system at all though. Many thanks for any ideas you guys can come up with.

Have you checked to see that the return spring is in properly in place?
No, I haven't checked. Where is that spring located? I'm going to bleed the system tomorrow so I can look then. Could someone post the instructions for replacing the master and slave cylinders just in case I need them please? It sucks being so close to the Oktoberfest bimmerheads and not being able to get help from them.
I was wondering, how do you bleed the system? I've bled the brakes, but can you bleed the clutch? Was it the slave cylinder on top of the gearbox that is bled?
One thing that comes to mind, is when the slave cylinder is opened (I forget what was actually done) and if you pushed the clutch pedal, it would go all the way to the floor, and not come back up. Maybe you have some dirty fluid or air in the system?

Slave cylinder is probably the culprit....it's pretty common for these to go on E30's.
Well it turned out to be the master cylinder that was the problem. Got that replaced and it's running great again. Yes, Bry you bleed it with the slave cylinder. BTW did you enjoy Keystone?
I need to get under there and bleed my slave cylinder then. Is it the same as bleeding the brakes?
Keystone was a blast. My favorite part had to be the driving school in Denver. I learned a ton from that. I got an award for the autocross, and picked up lots of free stuff. I had a great time seeing all of the '02s also! I stayed in Vail, so it took a drive to get over there, but overall, I had a great time.

Holy bajebus! That happened to our car last week too! The problem is the clutch cylinder. If the brakes work your master is fine. if there is fluid on the ground your brakes prob wont work either. If the brakes are fine, and the clutch sinks (gets sucked down) to the floor, its the clutch cylinder. Not too bad considering the alternatives....
Weird, but good to see someone else had a similar problem. Its not too bad $$$ wise. Should only be a lil for parts, and a lil for labor. Peace
