Have the opportunity to jump on a perfect 04 M3 with everything i wasnt EXCEPT navigation. Besides opinions on whether it is a worthwhile system, hoping someone knows the answer. Can an OEM navigation system from BMW be installed in the M3 after the fact? The climate controls would have to be moved down, etc . . . Anyone know if it can be done? If so, where was it pulled off.
Thanks so much.

it can be done, but you're looking at spending probably close to 4K in parts etc if you buy new; and probably about half of that if you purchase off something like ebay.
also keep in mind that it probably wont be warrantied...so should the computer break you wont be covered...

It can be done, but everything ive read shows cost to do the mod at about $5000.

It's not worth it, the dealer explained how expensive and how long it would take.. I just bought the Avic n2 from pioneer with the ipod adapter for 1400.. Much cheaper and better.
Getting it installed tommorow, will post pics.

I priced it out and with a hook up it was like $3800. I opted for an aftermarket option about half the price.

Would love to see photos of an after-market installation in the M3. My work truck (4runner) & our LS430 have the factory nav systems and they are great to have. Hope to find something other than suction cups to the windshield approach.......................................... :cool

Mine is the Avic-N2, alot of people on the board have it.. Hopefully its done today.. I fucking hate my installation place, I spend alot of money there and they treat me like garbage, the only luxury is they are close to where I live/work.
If not, tommorow at the latest

Like most people have said, the retro will cost a lot, BUT if you keep an eye out and are patient you can pick up a used OEM kit on the boards. I've seen a few go for $1500-$1800. If you do the install yourself, you can save the money on that too.

I've heard the euro oem retrofit kit for NAV has a PnP wiring harness. Some parts dealers can get it. Otherwise, you'll end up replacing the entire audio harness. At least that was what I was told when I looked into this.

My buddy is a mechanic at BMW and he said that it was a main harness that would need to be replaced in order to get the factory nav to work. Seems odd that BMW would incorporate such complex wiring for each M as opposed to keeping the assembly costs down and doing it one way for all M's.
