Cadillac Grand Prix of Washington D.C. Sets Final Field For Celebrity Race
West Wing Cast Members, Coolio, Among Those Set to Drive in Inaugural Event
Washington, D.C., (May 22, 2002) –The Cadillac Grand Prix today announced the final eight additions to its celebrity race to be held on Saturday, July 20, 2002 during the three-day event in the nation’s capitol. Stars of the stage and screen as well as musicians and politicians will drive in the first-ever celebrity race on the 1.7-mile track on the parking lots of RFK stadium.
The final field of celebrities includes:
· William Shatner, “Star Trek;”
· “Coolio;” rap star and actor
· Steve Harwell, lead singer, “Smashmouth”
· Ian Ziering , “Beverly Hills 90210” star
· Dule Hill, NBC’s “The West Wing”
· Tim Matheson , NBC’s “The West Wing”
· Kim Alexis, Supermodel
· Pierre Thuot, NASA astronaut
· Brad Whitford, "Aerosmith”
· Melissa Joan Hart, “Sabrina: The Teenage
The celebrity race is tentatively set to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 following the SPEED World Challenge Touring race. The event will feature a match-racing format in pairing each celebrity with a professional driver. The celebrity and the professional will each drive one lap – the best-combined team time will be the winner.
Each of the celebrities who will compete in the race are required to attend a one or two-day training session at the Panoz driving school in Sebring, Atlanta or Dallas before taking part in the race. Unlike many other celebrity races where drivers race small engine vehicles, each driver in the Cadillac Grand Prix celebrity race will be at the wheel of a Panoz GT-RA, a 5.0-liter, 250-horsepower racing machine.
The Cadillac Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., which is coming to the grounds of RFK Stadium July 19-21, will feature races of four sanctioning bodies: American Le Mans (ALMS), Trans-Am, World Challenge and Star Mazda. It will be the first major auto-racing event in the D.C. metropolitan area in more than 80 years. The ALMS race will be televised live on NBC and CBS will air the Trans-Am race. The three-day weekend festival will feature a concert, world-record breaking jump by Robbie Knievel, Lifestyle Expo and a celebrity match race.

You won't be able to miss us. We are entered in the car show on Sunday and we'll most likely be hanging around that area when the races aren't catching our interest.
At any rate, I'll try to remember and sport the hat.
