My E36 is Laguna Seca Blue and i haven't really gotten around to detail in the past year or so. Since its a non metalic color it pretty much shows all types of swirls.
Any advice on what i should use to get rid of the swirls and which steps i should do to get my show finish?

Hey tab....me and you can go to pepboys sometime this week and find some good stuff. We can have a detail day at my house. Maybe Waseem will join in too. Give me a call sometime this week.

There seem to be two approaches to dealing with swirls - remove them or hide them.
If you want to remove the swirls, you have to remove the paint to the level of the bottom of the swirls. In the Detailing 101 thread, David tells you how to use abrasive and mild polishes with a PC. Then you protect the paint with a sealant or wax.
You can choose to use a product that hides the swirls. 3M SMR is one. This product contains fillers and oils that literally hide the swirl marks. Then you give it a layer of good wax. Of course, when the oils in the swirl mark remover evaporate, the swirls return.
Either way it's important to prevent further swirl marks in the future by using proper washing techniques.
