What do you guys think of this product? It doesn't do anything for me. It's as I wipe it on, let it dry and wipe it off. The surface still feels rough. All that time work for nothing. :thumbdown

I have tried the Meguires Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner and while it did help a bit, nothing works better then clay barring first.. :)

Cleaner is not meant to smooth the paint, as ^ said, clay is what is supposed to smooth the paint. Cleaner is to take old wax off.

I don't worry too much about my car's paint, but I did spend a full day detailing my car a couple months back.

I clay barred with a Mother's clay bar, and followed with the Meguiars three step (1. Paint cleaner 2. Polish 3. Wax) and I'm very happy with the results two months later. The 1995 paint on my car which I've owned for a year now looks new despite the not-so-great condition it was in when I bought the car.

If they say it removes road grime, surface contamination, etc. then it should. But, it doesn't. It's just like wiping on hand lotion on the car; it doesn't do anything, but wastes your time, elbow grease and sweat.

I have never used clay and it sounds really messy, but I'm interested to try one of these days.

Still, anyone have experience using Meguiar's paint cleaner?

It works better if you have a DAP like a Porter-Cable 7424. At least, I've had good luck w/ it on my SE-R and M3.

Michael.

I don't worry about detailing my car that much, as I said before, but I USED Meguiars Paint Cleaner (Step 1 in the 3 step Meguiars wax) and I was very happy with the results. I used the Meguiars paint cleaner AFTER I clay barred my car, then Meguiars polish, then Meguiars wax.

Clay is NOT messy at all. You wet the area you are claying with a detail spray or water and run the clay over the wet surface (very simple). I'm not sure how you could say that it is messy? :dunno

I plan to do this again within the next month and I plan to do it many times in the future.

Check out http://www.autopia.org/ if you don't believe me/us.

Check out http://www.autopia.org/ if you don't believe me/us.It sounds like clay works everywhere I've read. Messy might be the wrong word. It's just that you have to rinse the section again after your done. It's an extra step. But, I still think Meguiar's step 1 is useless, though it's nice to hear your input on the product.

I did however just buy the Meguiar's clay. I'm not a fan of Meguiar's or Mothers products, but there isn't much else on the shelf. Let's see how it works...

What should I check at www.autopia.org? I'm not sure what you mean.

The Meguiar's Paint Cleaner is a great product at removing built up wax residue.

You don't wipe it on, let it dry, and remove it.

You work it into the finish like you're using a swirl remover, over and over and over on the same section. After wiping the paint cleaner off, take a clean fingertip and put it on the paint, apply pressure to your fingertip like you were squashing a bug, and push. It should make a loud squeaky noise like you were rubbing plastic. Thats because there's nothing there under your fingertip but clearcoat.

If its completely smooth with no squeak, than there's still wax or some other protective coating best not messed with unless you feel like compounding with a Porter Cable or rotary and know what your doing!

The paint cleaner will also hide minor swirls since it has a light to moderate concentration of polish in it. It will also remove light contaminants as stated too when properly worked into the finish and leave it smoother. In the case of newer cars, as smooth as if it was just clayed.

I use Megiar's paint cleaner wax every time, I love it. It removes the fine swirls, and a coat of carnuba afterwards makes my car praise worthy! :-)
