Who are running staggered wheels on their E34? What size tires are you running? How do you like the way it drives and handles? Would you do it again?

Staggerede34 07-23-2005, 02:09 PM i love my wheels 17x8-225-45 and 17x10-255-40 handles great with the new suspension Ted K 07-23-2005, 02:12 PM Thanks, it looks great too. BimmerFreak 07-23-2005, 02:14 PM 235/45/17 and 255/40/17 Good to go. Ted K 07-23-2005, 02:17 PM Thanks i am looking at 17x8 front 17x9 rear. fkong777 07-23-2005, 04:15 PM me going on to 18x8.5 and 18x10 soon Breakerbacker 07-23-2005, 04:38 PM I have (Eagle F1's)245/40/18 in front and 275/35/18 in back on factory M Parallels. The car will understeer pretty hard, and tramlines a little more than the winter set which is 235/45/17 all around. For around town driving, it is no big deal. The wider rears really fill in the back nicely, and as far as looks go, WOW! On the track it might be more of a problem, but I dont track the car, so it doesnt matter to me. Good luck, Greg mihai77 07-23-2005, 05:18 PM This size is what I had a few months ago until I blew one of the rears. The picture shows 275's which is what I have now, but I will get 285's when the time comes for new tires. Lots of $$$$ liquidtiger720 07-23-2005, 06:09 PM This size is what I had a few months ago until I blew one of the rears. E34 530 07-23-2005, 09:47 PM Thanks i am looking at 17x8 front 17x9 rear. I just bought a set of style 32 rims for my E34. They are exactly what your looking for, 17x8 in front, 17x9 in back. I have not put them on yet because I just bought the hub centric rings and I need 2 front tires. Don't mean to highjack the thread, but there won't be any rubbing or anything will there?? -Thanks BimmerFreak 07-23-2005, 10:17 PM This size is what I had a few months ago until I blew one of the rears. I know they stagger e46 M3 rims becasue the are almost to "darty" fo rthe average joe, but arent our cars pretty balanced? Do we really want to induce understeer? MaloventEvil 07-24-2005, 09:40 AM well i guess overall (for sheer grip), more rubber is better than less rubber, no? Ted K 07-24-2005, 09:42 AM does the staggered set up do this? Qsilver7 07-24-2005, 10:12 AM Some may want a little understeer. For those who don't know what understeer & oversteer is...it refers to the loss of wheel traction in a curve or turn...understeer is that point when the front wheels lose traction and begin to slip across the pavement... and oversteer is when the rear wheels lose traction through a curve or turn and create a wider steering path than what the driver intended...in effect rotating the rear end around. A little understeer is safer than oversteer in that if the car understeers, and no correction is made, the car still remains stable with only the front wheels "scrubbing" past the intended turning path. If the car begins to oversteer, and no correction is made, the rear wheels will lose grip and the car will spin out, thus losing all directional control...which aint' a good situation to be in. :evil2 :devillook :evil2 BMW did offer staggered wheel set-ups for the E34 5 series: * the (17x8/17x9) 17" Style 5 "Composite Cross Spoke": http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HE61&mospid=47384&btnr=36_0440&hg=36&fg=15 * the (17x8/17x9) 17" Style 21 "Throwing Stars": http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HE61&mospid=47384&btnr=36_0055&hg=36&fg=15 * the (17x8/17x9) 17" Style 16 "Flat Stars": http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HE61&mospid=47384&btnr=36_0212&hg=36&fg=15 * the (17x8/17x9) 17" Style 18 "Round Spokes": http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HE61&mospid=47384&btnr=36_0213&hg=36&fg=15 * the (17x8/17x9) 17" Style 19 "7-Spoke Composite": http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HE61&mospid=47384&btnr=36_0216&hg=36&fg=15 * the (17x8/17x9) 17" Style 26 "Ellipsoidal": http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HE61&mospid=47384&btnr=36_0214&hg=36&fg=15 * the M5's (18x8/18x9) 18" Style 37 "M Parallel": http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HD93&mospid=47412&btnr=36_0190&hg=36&fg=15 323I Junkie 07-24-2005, 10:55 AM cool mihai77 07-24-2005, 01:48 PM what wheels are those? 18"s 8.5 & 9.5 WC0820 07-12-2007, 04:17 PM Breakerbacker (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/member.php?u=38584) I really like your set up. Great job as it provides the perfect look. I’m curious to know if you had to complete any suspension modification to get those 275/35/18 under the rear? If not do you experience any scrubbing? I ask about your experiences or everyones insight because I’m in the process of purchasing a set of Staggered Style #89 (A.K.A M5 style ) 18x8–Front and 18x9.5-Rear (5x120mm 20mm/23mm) for my 1992 525I. Should I go for it or should I be prepared for modifications for a smooth ride? WC0820 323I Junkie 07-12-2007, 10:57 PM Yeah, Breakerbacker, where you been? WC0820 07-17-2007, 09:53 AM You all are true BMW enthusiast. I love it! I’ve learned more about my 1992 E34 (525I) in weeks than I’ve learned directly from BMW since I’ve owned it. This discussion has motivated me for change. I reviewed 'Breakerbacker' (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/member.php?u=38584) comments on his setup. I wanted to get you all opinions on adding the following wheel and tire combo… Front - Tires 245/40/18 wheels 18x8 Rear – Tires 275/35/18 wheels 18x9.5 Will this fit right on or will I need suspension or fender rolling for the fit? WC0820 323I Junkie 07-17-2007, 10:20 AM On my 535, with the Sachs Lowering kit from BMA, It seems that a 275 might rub. I run 265's, I have seen 285s but I think they are rolled |
