5spd 1984 633 CSi

Its got 224K miles. baught for $1500 as a fixer car in socal. Put roughly
$6,000 into it within 2 years thinking I would keep it (porsche has caught my attention).

Engine is very strong, passed emissions and had great compression when it was last checked.

Interior has some good and bad points, driver seat has a tear across its seem, dash has one crack, lots of gauges dont work or accurate. The money I put into it was mostly for mechanical service so it runs reliable.

I think the LSD might need a rebiuld. Needs alignment. Has very slow PS leak which has never gotten worse, only need to top it off maybe once a month. And sometimes smoke comes out of the exhaust (previous owner told me it was a little bit of oil collecting int he exhaust) my mechanic says its not even worth fixing since its a small thing.

I have records back to 99

Can use new paint.

Was hoping to get $3800, I know theres a lot of people that would like to fix a car like this up even further.

If I were to keep it I would
1)fix lsd
2)wheel allign
3)paint
4)calibrate/fix gauges

Theres a lot that I didnt mention but this should give you a descent idea of what its like.

Lots of good info there, but one thing about these cars is that it is a labor of love. We throw lots of money into it, and we will never get it back.

I think $3800 would be rather high forthe condition and the work that needs to be done. Your car will most likely be sold for $2000 to $2500.

i paid $1500 for my 86 in march.already have more than that invested.i don't plan on selling as this has been one of my dream cars for a long time.since you brought up the "P" word,if the right 928 came along, who knows.i've racked up some drive time since there have been a couple in the family.i doubt it though due to it costing more to maitain than the bimmers i've owned.
there's always a buyer out there somewhere.good luck.

needing paint - 2-2500 sounds about right -

I've loved 928's for years - but the parts cost combined with labor would kill me I'm sure.

thanks for the input.

Do you guys think I should paint it before I sell it?

How much would a recomended paintjob cost?
and
How much more would I get for the car if it did get fresh paint?

To be honest, you'll lose even more money if you do a good paint job. Good ones will run @$3k so if you do that, you should keep the car.

Ryan, keep the car. It is truely a labor of love. You will regret it down the road if you sell. It has taken me over 20 years to finally get my hands on a 6, but then again, maybe I'm different. I just don't know how to express it.

it is a labor of love, and it has taken me quite a while for me to own one.my wife is jealous of my other lady.she goes from saying i'll be buried sitting in the drivers seat,to having a bonefire,to(ouch)having a little fun with a sledge hammer.i dont know which will happen,so i'm happy firing this baby up and rolling thru the gears every chance i can.
if you truely enjoy owning a 6,i say KEEP IT!owning a porsche will drive to the poor house quicker, however, you'll probably have a wider smile.it's been said before,it's human nature to want what you dont have.it's fair to also add that that you may want back what you dont have(anymore).

I do understand what you guys are saying but theres a big list of things I dont like about it...Im more of a performance guy than a sedan cruiser. For example I would choose the carrera GT over the SLR.

The seats are to cushy and not enough support, suspension is for a babys crib, steering came out of a ice cream truck...I need a raw brilliant sprts car....BMW is not what I desire at this point however I still like it....I just dont need it more than I feel like I need the Porsche.

My friends RX7 turbo was much more gratifying than the 633 and the RX7 turbo is similar to the 944 turbo which is what i want to get next. Like I said, I do like the 633CSi but its just not something for me anymore and I dont feel like dropping more $ into it when its still going to wiegh 3400+ lbs, etc.

but if I do regret it, they are not very expensive its just a matter of patience finding the right one.

sounds like you're making the right decision then.it doesn't sound that that you're very attached to it except for the looks.i wouldn't sink anymore $$$ into it,as they're usually not earned back.take care of the inexpensive maintenance items.i have a different outlook on my 6,mainly because i've wanted one for soo long.it's not tossable like the E30's i've owned, but when i look out at the fleet and need to be transported, the 6 is my 1st choice.the sports seats fit me like a glove and the suspension is tight, the old style steering box, well, that leaves a little to be desired.
now would i love to have a 911 of a 928 in the garage, you bet your a$$,but for now,my thirst is quenched.
