Hey all,

Driving down the road today, cruising around 40, my hood suddenly decides to fly open. I think it's partly due to the fact that the hood was misaligned to begin with from the previous owner - perhaps it didn't feel right. I was installing a new elbow between the TB and MAF earlier today, and I closed the hood same as I always do. I was under the impression that BMW designed the hood to lock even when partially closed -- but hey, what happened happened. I'm just glad no damage was done to anything but the hood (which needed to go in the future) and, unfortunately, the windshield.

I assume I'm looking at anywhere from 350-500 to replace the windshield? Anyone know a quality place to have it done in or around North Jersey? Couldn't have come at a worse time... I'm heading off to school in a month, and my dad and I have been trying to get this car restored piece by piece for a while now. The cash we'll have to blow on this could definately have been used somewhere more constructive.

Thanks,
elmiko

PS - Limping back home with the hood bungee'd to the front bumper cover (which happens to be zip tied to the bumper itself until we get the m3 bumper on and get it painted) and a smashed windshield I saw a cosmos m3 drive by going through Roseland. I think it's the one I've seen parked in Roseland before, around the corner from the Fernwood golf course. If the owner is on here, damnit - your car has been popping up in my dreams for two or three years now.

Novus in Teaneck (or was it Bergenfield) did great work on my 96. Do you have glass protection as part of your insurance? That could help defray the cost.
