I did an autocross last weekend with the NYBMWCCA!

If someone can quickly tell me... what's an autocross? Thanks!

It's a timed race event where a course is laid out with cones in a large parking lot or similar area (for NY it's usually Nassau Coliseum). You race the clock against other cars that have been classified as similar in performance to yours. Winning times are usually decided by tenths or hundredths of a second so it get's pretty intense. You are not racing head to head so there is much less of a risk of damaging your car. It can get pretty addictive. :evil2

i would like toi get somthing together aswell,and have been trying to do so.for a long time. but ppl just dont seem intrestead.maybe we can make this work.if theres another willing to help

The New Yorker mentality just doesn't seem to vibe too well with having a "club" per se.

if you want to start something real,someone needs to start a dedicated local forum.... look at the sqc and evo guys. they roll crazy hard to every meet and are pretty much organized in all aspects of a "car club".. those guys are like family... i show up to their meets every now and then, and get reminded minded how real clubs should be running their sh*t.

rayray you have a gereat point, before getting my M3, I was looking into Evo's, and Evo-NY's forums were a commonplace for me to be, and then when I got my M I looked around for the same kind of "club" for the guys on LI/NYC with BMW's but found nothing. They organize meets, dyno days, etc. etc. and even have membership #'s and stickers for a small price. They're a solid solid crew and us being united by BMW should do the same. It'd be a great club to put together.

my boy is in a dsm club (eclipses talons etc.) and there real dedicated and show up with a boat load of cars at events and all seem to have a good time.
we need somthing like that.im not saying we need some whole thing with some fee you have to pay every week and a big sticker you have to slap across ya window.but we should atleast get together once a week and maybe roll together to some events.

The fee thing with the Evo guys is a one time thing to cover you're membership sticker and site upkeep, nothing monthly, I was just using it as an example, but i still think it'd be cool if we put something together, doesn't have to be all official, but idk, maybe if we got some gold bracelets?

Is this just going to be a NYC/NY thing only or is NJ included or someone is going to set something off for NJ... I mean the more the merrier right?

I'd say if we do it, should be NJ/NYC/LI and maybe even CT. but it'd be a big help if the peole from throughout the tristate area all had to travel equal distances, i know for the evo guys they all meet up in queens area, bc nj guys and ct. guys won't have to travel far. It's just a thought but, i figure keeping it AT LEAST NYC/LI/NJ would be a great start. Should get a list together of who would want to do it. Could even get a free website w/ forum and of course, glamour shots by deb and some sweet bracelets.

maybe we should set up a weekly meet.and we can figure things out from there.the rooselvelt feild mall thing works out pretty good.its just out of queens into long island and is very easy to get to from all major highways.also it has enuff room were no matter what amount of cars come there is always enuff space.queens is a little tight with parking and theres a bit of traffic.but either way im down.why dont we start by getting together at the roosevelt feild mall?

I think the Walt Whitman mall has an informal classic car show at night once every week. There's also a hoods-closed one at one of the train stations along Sunrise Hwy that's pretty big. As long as the hood is closed, it's just a gathering. Maybe arrange something off to the side of one of these so you can check out some classics while you're there. There's probably a better chance of someone stumbling across the BMW group this way, also.

A weekly meet is definitely a good idea. RFM does work pretty well and its very easy to get to, there's also plenty of stuff to do nearby (food, bars, movies, jillians, etc). There are small meets right down the street at the Loews movie theatre on weeknights- sometimes its VWs, sometimes its Evo's and sti's. I'd be down w/Walt Whitman, but it seems far for non-islanders.

Ok all of these ideas are good....the logo`s and vinyl`s are no problem either......i get all my vinyl work done at speed world and they do excellent custom work, i`m willing to take care of that when we agree on a logo,name ect. a one time fee sounds cool also but then we would have to have elections and next thing u know our president will want to invade all audi owners for all the wrong reasons....lol....but it`s kool....i`m look forward to more input....also i`m makeing up flyers and putting them on BMW`s inviting them to the first meet and t join the club....so all we need is a time and place so we can get the ball rolling. :buttrock HOLLA!

I know, Ray. But you have realize the mentality of an EVO or STi owner is very different than most BMW owners. That's why we hang out with them more than BMW people! LOL!

It was alot of fun and we all must do it again.....Martin ya car is sic i went to 212 motoring today and they should me a package from "eisenhause" i think with the cold air intake,suspension,super charger,and full quad exhaust for 5k with labor the guy said it would rival dinan, if u think this is a good idea let me know....also i need to upgrade my brakes.....that and my wife....lol kept me at 120 on the meadow brook, its funny she does not have a problem when i`m on my Bike....go figure! :help

I would get something in writing from the 212 motoring people. Once you get that info, go to the 5 series forum and post it there. Most guys will be glad to help you out and a lot of them are more knowledgeable than I am. Also post the brake question at the same time, but I can tell you that brakes are pricey. You should try the Axxis Brake Pads First and see if they improve your stops.
