View Full Version : Urgent Audio Installer
therzdae 07-17-2005, 01:13 AM Hey yall, I need someone in the Cherokee, Georgia area. To install a RC wire from my stereo to my trunk. I need a good clean job, I don't want to see the wire. Im pretty sure I have a long enough wire, if not i can go buy some more. I have everything needed, I would like someone to come to my house and do it. IF that is not possible I will drive to your house. I need this done as soon as possible. If you post on here, post
Where your located.
The price you will do it for.
When can you do it.
Thank yall,
Brice Tomlinson
Jean-Claude 07-17-2005, 01:16 AM So you just need a wire run from your console/stereo area into the trunk...no hooking anything up?
Come to my house and i'll do it for about $100 depending on the size of the wire. :cool
RC?? Do you mean RCA?
I'm in Newton County, but I could meet you at my shop in Conyers. I just ran my RCAs and there is no way to tell they are there. :cool
$100 you must be on crack. Take your car to circuit city or hifi buy etc. They can run a rca cable from behind the radio to the trunk for less than a hundred if that is all that you want. It will probably be $50 to $75.

I'll second this, and recommend Circuit City. They were always helpful when I had ground/short probles with the stereo in my old car.

Jean-Claude 07-17-2005, 11:26 AM It's about a hour to a hour and a half job. I don't think $100 is unreal for a job that must be done today. But then again if you want to save $25 and have CC or BB do it, best of fortunes to you. :rofl
I would suggest steering clear of any large chain like bb, cc or hifi buys. Go to a skilled radio installer. It will probably be fairly steep but you will get done right. Anyone who takes their car to any of those joints is asking for a ugly job. A store owner/installer will want his name to remain valued and the majority will do a good job.
Robstah 07-17-2005, 12:04 PM Jean-Claude, did you run yours down the side, or under the carpet in the center?
Jean-Claude 07-17-2005, 12:16 PM Under the carpet down the middle.

Circuit city charged me $70 to install my sirius uniti in my X3. They ran the bmw sirius cable from the headunit to the trunk and ran the sirius antenna cable from the tuner to the top of the roof. All hidden to where I couldn't see any cables. So I know to run a rca jack to the trunk will be cheaper.
Sorry but I would rather trust CC than you. This was your first time installing stereo stuff in a BMW since you were asking so many question in the stereo section on the board, and asking for help to get your stuff installed in your own car, since you said it was your first time. CC has done many BMW's and going to them is no problem. I can agree that usually a independant non-chain store typically has better/skilled installers, but to say stay clear of them and to come to you for $100. C'mon now.
therzdae 07-17-2005, 02:09 PM yeah i was looking under 100 dollars, local shops around here the cheapest is 90 bucks just to run yes sorry the RCA wire from the head unit to just the trunk they add 40$ to the price because its a BMW. :mad I was looking for like a 60$ one i drive to them type thing. But i guess ill go to CC or BB well thanks any way yall.

Yeah, my first install of wiring and such. So his car must be worlds different than mine huh? 1st time or not I know how to do this on a e36 now. It is a hour and 45 minute job taking seats/bolsters/panels out and fishing the wiring through the carpet. Much less to do it today. So I still think $100 is fair.
I mean he did ask for someone to do it urgently. If he wanted cc to do it then why in the world would he come here and ask for someone? From the looks of it I was only $10 more than the cheapest shop around him.
Well, I am done trying to justify my price to others. I was the only one who fulfilled what he asked for. Not like I am forcing anyone to take my offer. :rolleyes
Btw, how much would you charge for a hour and a half of your labor on short notice Dean?

he just wouldn't do cheap manual labor..along with many others..that wiring is not that hard..do it yourself, I have done this in under half an hour before...charging hour and half for a job like just running wire is global style ass raping...

:rofl there is no way I could do that in 30minutes.
aMiR M3 07-17-2005, 07:15 PM when you know where all the bolts and sizes on e36's are like your own phone number than things like that can be done in 30 minutes..
bcart1991 07-17-2005, 07:18 PM I always forget my phone number.

I am familiar with where things are. There is alot to remove/move.
Off the top of my head:
1. Move all of the carpeting off the wall area in the truck(take off tail light cover)
2. Remove rear driver side 6x9 w/ a t-20
3. Remove rear seat
4. Remove wall panel in the backseat
5. Remove bolster
6. Remove ash trey from backseat
7. Unscrew 3 screws from under the ashtray
8. Remove all of the cupholders/coin holders/ashtray from between front seats
9. Remove hazard lights button/unscrew screw from under the button.
10. Unlodge the center consol between seats and work it backwards
11. Remove shifter boot
12. Remove obc display/remove ac display/remove radio
13. Start fishing the RCA from the trunk
14. Work it down below the side panel inside the car and work it below the carpet.
15. Make a 2" cut in the carpet under where the ashtray was in the backseat.
16. Spend quite some time fishing it under the floorboard carpet w/ a coathanger. Because the foam under the carpet is so tough it took me quite some time. Then again some peoples might not be in near as good shape as mine and might be very flexible.
17. Next, after all the excess wire has been pulled through the ashtray area start fishing it under the arm rest. This can also take a while.
18. After all the excess wire is pulled through between the seats run the RCA wire up under to where the shifter is.
19. After that, fish it on up to the radio through where the obc and climate controls are.
20. Next put everything back nice and snug and make sure the wires are not making your carpet in the rear floor area look bad.
Did I miss something?
Even if I did I am sure I would catch it immidiatly while I am working.
I am not saying you can't do it in 30minutes amir. I can't though. Like you said, no one would do that work(manual labor) for cheap. What's the difference in me charging for the actual time I took to do a awesome job, and someone else charging a buttload for 30 minutes of work, if they both cost the same and look the same? It's no difference to him.
Thing is, as I have done with a few others on the board I end up doing work for free or they pay next to nothing for what they get. I have a P.I.B. fee that I keep handy for folks. If they are not a P.I.B. they get a hook up. :redspot No CC/BB/Hifi Buys/or installer gives hook-ups to cool people.
Thing is, I won't tell someone I will do the work for little to nothing. Who knows? I might get out there and they are some kinda paranoid freak who irritates the crap outa me and then bitches me out over nothing. Have you ever heard the phrase:"give 'em a inch, they take a mile" or "give a mouse a cookie and he'll want a glass of milk"?
I would rather aim high and shoot/hit low. Better safe than sorry.
I don't know why I bothered with all this. I suppose I don't want people around here thinking I am some kinda greedy jerk. :blackeye
aMiR M3 07-17-2005, 07:54 PM that's cool..do as you like but that list still...come on "remove hazard button" half the stuff on that list takes less than a couple seconds to do and most of it is all in constant path that can be done fast one after another..but anyhow..I was just saying..take it to a shop that backs their work and you wont have worries later..even less headache for you to deal with JC...

I posted that last late last night and when I got up this morning and started browsing I was thinking about how I don't really want to do it. lol works out for me.
Yeah, that list...I was not suggesting that everything listed takes forever. That is why I said the actual wire fishing takes quite some time while the rest of the stuff doesnt take very long. I was just showing that off the top of my head I know the install. ;)

that's what happens when you get old.
therzdae 07-18-2005, 01:19 PM so the cheapest person here is 100 dollars, coming to my house?
erhm i wish i were rich, oh well. Ill let you know if i ever get a job, and 100 dollars! ;)

The *only person* that made a offer...
Though, after listing what goes into it and remembering how hot it gets in the car I think i've changed my mind. lol
I simply could not drive up to you to have it done. That would cost me $20 in fuel alone.
I think at this point your best bet is to find a audio installer up there.
Or drive down my way, give me a hand, be really cool and buy me a few beers after the install and we could call it even. Or....be a jerk and get charged $100. lol
HypnosisRacing 07-18-2005, 02:04 PM Im in Towne Lake and would do it for $80 if you drive to my house...personally though, if they quoted you $90 to do it at a shop, do it that way, because i cant guarantee my work, and while its just a freakin' RCA cable, if something did happen (whatever the case may be) it would be nice to just be able to swing back by a shop and have them fix it immediately when you ask...let me know if this is something you would want to consider, again, i think $80 is fair...as long as you have the right length RCA and you have a couple of hours you can do without your car...im right off Towne Lake Parkway, Park View @ Towne Lake next to Longhorns...
Feel free to email me at seanhrcc@hotmail.com

Atlanta to Woodstock = $20 in fuel?
What do you get, 1 MPG?? :rofl

I put Atlanta as where I am from because people in general from other states don't know where Covington is. :rolleyes
I technically live about 45+ minutes from Atlanta.

Well, if you'd said Covington, then... ;)
Jean-Claude 07-18-2005, 09:10 PM If I had Covington, people would be like....Wow J.C., you live in Kentucky? No one knows of the Covington in Ga. Just in Kentucky. :(
95m3Lightweight 07-18-2005, 10:37 PM Never heard of Convington KY. If someone says Convington, I think of Convington LA just outside of New Orleans.

QuickRabbit 07-19-2005, 09:00 AM hey I work at Circuit city doing audio installs and it all depends on the store u go to. At our shop up in dunwoody we keep shit perfesional and it pisses me off when people act like because were a chain we cant do anything. come by and see us up on abernathy if u need anything and dont get charged $100 bucks to run a freakin RCA that would take all of 15 min.
QuickRabbit 07-19-2005, 09:06 AM also what kind of dumb ass runs an RCA down the center of the car?!?
HypnosisRacing 07-19-2005, 10:42 AM we keep shit perfesional
Ouch...
punknamedjimmy 07-19-2005, 11:02 AM heck, even people from georgia don't seem to know where smyrna is (or how to spell or say it)
Doctor Wha 07-19-2005, 11:19 AM heck, even people from georgia don't seem to know where smyrna is (or how to spell or say it)
Heh! In my lifetime, I've heard all kinds of ridiculous attempts at pronunciations.
"Smeer-nuh," "Day-kahlb," "Cham-BLEE"... :rofl
Jean-Claude 07-19-2005, 08:30 PM also what kind of dumb ass runs an RCA down the center of the car?!?
I guess 95% of the members on this board that have aftermarket audio equipment installed are the kind of dumb asses that have done it that way.
The reason most people feel that a large chain does a bad job is because many times they do very bad jobs, and there are tons of horror stories online about those chains. I am sure there are skilled installers working for those large chains but there are not many and unless you know someone personally the chance of you getting one is close to nill.
HypnosisRacing 07-20-2005, 09:53 AM lol...city names can be fun...Mare-Etta (marietta), that tends to be my favorite.
I agree with the large chain installs too...just because one or two people out of the hundreds that work at them in our area actually take some time to do things right, it doesnt mean the rest of the stores dont suck...my father in law's neighbor had circuit city's "Road Shop" in kennesaw install a radio in his daughters car, and had to bring it back 5 times to have it fixed because of something they kept half ass doing...thats just one of several horror stories ive heard...the last time she had a problem i went over there and fixed it for them (whoever installed the ground for her amp kept putting it on a bolt that did not tighten all the way down, thus making it come off and cutting off the system)...took all of 10min for me to undo that wire from the bolt and put it a few inches to the left on another bolt which mounted flat to the floor and now for 2 months she's had NO problems)...
lol...so yeah, needless to say, i do my own and my family's installs.

That's May-RETTA... Jawja n00b. :nono ;)
And "Towne Lake" is in Woodstock! :stickoutt :D
HypnosisRacing 07-21-2005, 10:15 AM ^^^ You are correct...hahaha, but Towne Lake sounds so much better. ;) (really though, i just put it there because we all desire to be our own town so badly...hahah j/k)
May-retta is another good way to say it...i think you are right, i've actually heard that more than the one i put, but both are commonly used none the less...jawja noob nuffin...lol, ive been here for 25 years. BAM! :)
Doctor Wha 07-21-2005, 12:14 PM jawja noob nuffin...lol, ive been here for 25 years. BAM! :)
Ha! Been here more than a decade longer than you. KA-BLAMM-A-RAMA!! :D
