nope, just tight at some sections, but I think it was fun!

Keefe (not the Keefe that hit 7 cones)

Welcome to our Virginia lot. Not much you can do there, especially with the dumpsters :dunno

It wasn't bad. The course had a good flow to it but was tricky to get right. You should have seen some of the past courses that we've had. If I recall one was called the flight of the bumble bee due to the course crossovers. Even veterans where getting lost on that course. Then there was the Clover leaf course.

Small lots don't give us many options,

Wasn't too bad. I worked the first session so I watched intently where people went off course. I knocked time off in my 2&3 sessions by the 4th the tires where to hot. Oh well, had fun. Will the event in Bowie be on a longer course?

John V

The Bowie courses will always be longer, and much less comlicated.

I thought the guys did a great job on laying out a fun course...the pointer cones marked it out very nice, and for a small lot with the obvious dumpster challenges, I thought it flowed pretty dam well!

Thanks for a fun morning guys! :redspot

Anybody know what FTD ended up being?

Talking about me? Yeah... I was the understeer channel. I haven't autocrossed that car in forever, and never on street tires :(

I ran a 43.2 in PSS, but anyone with r-comps should have toasted that time.

Bud, thanks for the comments... I tried to do what I could with the lot. I really thought the course worked out really well from the start all the way through the slalom. after that it got a bit tight and tricky.

I think it was 41 something from the first heat.

Yes John V, I was talking to you, was trying to get an idea how I was doing against M's on street tires. Mine was the black 87 325is. I was sliding the rear end out alot.

Need to work with my sway bars, and tire pressures.

I do need to swap soon, as I am going to Summit Point in a couple of weeks and I noticed it made a difference at VIR down the straights of 1-2 miles an hour...the motor seem to breath/rev better with it opened up. :D

Where is the understeer? Corner entry, mid-corner, corner exit?

What's your setup? Wheels / tires / suspension?

On a tight course like that, you just have to be patient and not try to come into corners too hot. The surface isn't the greatest, either. There was a lot of sand and dirt on the lot.

vrsixer
07-18-2005, 09:09 AM
Understeer was in the middle-end of the turn. I came out of a few turns with front wheels still turned and plowing straight ahead...

Car is bone stock, except for exhaust. Has the staggered setup, Pilot Sports: 225/45 front and 245/40 rear. I ran 39psi front and 37psi rear at the baysocks event, which worked great. Used the same in manassas, and kept lowering the front pressure every run. I had great turn in, but through the middle of the corner I started pushing hard, and pushed all the way through the exit... :(

Well, you went the wrong direction with your front pressure, for one. Unless you've overinflated the front tires (39psi on Pilot sports doesn't sound overinflated to me) lower pressure = lower grip.

Not much you can do with the staggered setup. It's going to push, especially in tight turns like the Manassas lot courses have. If it feels good at Bowie, don't change it for manassas.

:wave Hey sup guys, this is sheel...one of the new guys, driving the s2k

Just wanted to say the autox was fun, thanks for settin that up and it was great meeting everyone...

The course was definelty confusing -- i completely went off course my first run, even after watching heat 2 intentelly and working the course during the beginning of my heat -- but challenging and nice n tight

In hindsight, i think i should been running around in 1st gear instead of 2nd, but i have lots to learn anyways, this was only my 2nd autox...

Oh and that camaro driver was a beast -- i was really impressed!

I look forward to the next one. Do any of you guys run at WDCR?

Yeah, that's true ... in the interim, I'll just keep adding cone marks to "another" car :devillook :stickoutt

Thanks A LOT JV and Ken for coming down and designing the course. :) That was a helluva long drive to come down and help setup things. I was at BJ's grabbing extra water/ice ... AND running around during lunch time looking for ADAM'S stupid "salad" .... no pork ... chicken, preferably basted chicken ... etc. :mad :stickoutt

I liked the course. I thought it flowed really well ... and had a nice rhythm to it (not that I found it, lol). I have this innate problem of turning in too early around 90 degree turns ... methinks it's a problem with the CAR ... :stickoutt

The schedule is on nccbmwcca.org. I believe the next two autocrosses are at Bowie, then we have two at ripken.

I don't like the Manassas lot either. Not many people do but it is in Virginia which helps us keep a balance of events.

I promise Ken and I will design some fun courses for the next couple events. And I know Doby wanted to design a course for the Ripken lot. So watch out! I have a design to try on that lot if it works out as well. I think everyone has a good time at Bowie and Ripken will be even better due to the extra space.

Thanks for your patience and for setting up a good (albeit slightly confusing) and challenging course.
Made for a great 1st time AutoX experience.

Now the excuse generator says street tires suck and street tires w/ <500 miles on them suck more.
