I've heard of it being done. The downsides are:

It weighs more (quite a bit if I remember correctly)
You need to modify the brackets or something, it isn't a direct swap
The seats aren't as comfortable
Also, the bolsters are smaller, so you aren't held into your seat quite as well

But I have seen pictures of it done on the internet before.

The member Lukas 88is M-tec (also has the name LLuke) has vaders in his e30. I suggest emailing him because it doesn't look like he frequents the board enough to get a PM in the near future.
