I have a 97 M3 with the hk stereo and I just purchased a factory BMW 6 disc cd changer that was supposedly from a 99 M3(cd changer pn# 82 11 1 469 404), also with a hk stereo. I went to install it, plugged the two wires in, and it gave no errors, it found the cd's and I was able to scroll through the tracks on the cd. The only problem is I have no sound :mad . I can look insde the cd player and see that it is spinning the cd, and the radio still works just fine. Any ideas?
This is what the connectors look like.

The only two connectors I could find in the trunk are the two square plugs on the right, does anyone know what the round connector on the left is for, and if so what plugs into it and where would it be located. Thanks.

Hi I have no answer but I'm trolling for a replacment changer for my 99/HK it randomly will not find CDs
If you happen to find it is not compatible (I can't imagine why not) I'm in the market.

Bandwith isnt free! Theif, Theif!
the little cable doesn't matter on e36 cars, E39 cars (that also use that changer) it does.
sounds like a wiring problem
double check all your connections
if you can test other radios/changers

Hey;
Did you ever find out what the problem is? I just installed a CD changer in my '98 528i
(p/n 82 11 1 469 404) and the system recognizes that there are 4 CD's loaded and it indicates it is playing, but has no sound. The radio and weather channels work well. My car has the DSP system. Some links indicate that this unit should work with the DSP and I've read others that list that P/N is for non-DSP systems only. Any suggestions?

I didn't think any DSP changer would work with cars that are not wired for DSP and vis versa...?

no it does. that round plug non-dsp cars (3 series for sure) don't use. The changer just outputs line level audio to our head units. On DSP cars its the actual data beaing read by the changer sent to the head unit. Doesnt matter tho DSP or not. Changer still works.
