I've currently got an Alpine hu that is 3 or 4 years old. I've been considering getting the new 9855 model but I can't tell if it has a couple of features I like. First I like the tilt feature of my old Alpine hu. Does Alpine still put this feature on their hu's. I can't find it mentioned anywhere but the local audio store said they would still do it. Second feature I would like is the display of the song title/artist if the radio station is broadcasting the info. I know the stock radio would do it but I don't know what that feature is called. I know my current Alpine doesn't have that feature but I was hoping the new ones had it.

that feature is called RDS, and the 9835's don't do it, the biggest beef I have with mine.

As far as titling goes, they do do MP3 ID3 tage titles as well as filename and titles from cd text - so long as the info is there, they don't pull CDDB

and I understand it was in regards to 9855's adn I was talking about my 9835, but oh well. RDS is still RDS Radio Data System

Thanks guys, sounds like it has everything I want. Now I just have to figure out how to sneak it past the wife.

You might want to play with the Glide bar before you buy it. I hate that thing. My 9835 is much easier to navigate.

Otherwise, it's an awesome deck.

Yeah play with the glide bar. I have a 9855 on order and still wondering if I will get used to the glide bar. I got a sweet deal on one so I couldn't pass it up. I know it tilts but am not sure about RDS. I am thinking that it should have it.

what's the difference between the 9855 and the 9835? i'm trying to look for a seller of the 9835 on the net but i can't seem to find one.

if i install a new radio on my 1999 323i, do i have to rewire the entire thing?

one last question, will i lose the radio remote control function on the steering wheel?

thanks!

I think the differance is the glide bar and a Ipod hookup that will display the song titles. You can hook the ipod up to the 9835 but it won't display the songs or anything. And the interface might be a little different.

The CDA-9835 is an '04 model. Probably hard to find a new one. The CDA-9855 is the '05 replacement for the 9835. The main differenece is the Glide bar, used for navigating the menus, etc. There are other small changes. One is that it allows you to eliminate all the motion graphics from the display if you want to.

I believe Flexia is wrong about the Ipod adapter. It should work the same on the 9835 as it does on the 9855. The Ipod adapter was developed in '04 to be compatible with all '04 Ai-net decks.

CDA-9835 is 25W/ch whereas CDA-9855 is 18W/ch.. other differences are the little things already mentioned..

Well that depends... u can get an adapter to work with OEM steering controls i believe.. check this link..

I first thought the glidetouch was a pain in the ass to use and wished i had gone for the 9835 instead, but slowly getting used to it now....

I dont like the fact that they've hidden features like tilt and MX into menus whereas the 9835 had easily accessible buttons...

and one thing.... my RDS doesn't work? is it different in the US and in Australia? I'm in Australia and on my previous Pioneer hu (5-6yrs old) it had RDS and it worked? Why doesnt the alpine work?! strange...
