Gary,
Buying an E32 750iL "to fix up" is what's known as financial suicide. I'm going to get flamed (what else is new) but as someone who has dealt in them, there's not an awful lot of nice things I can say about early E32 750s. 88-89s can be pretty nasty cars, 91s are better but still quite high maintinence.
On top of all this we have a fixer-upper? Good god no.
What's your budget? 735i/ils are pretty much worthless, nice ones can easily be bought under $4k and are a better choice IMO.

i forgot to say the car runs and drives nice.. when i say fix up i mean like "pimp out" haha... the car dont smoke or knock tranny shifts smooth.. i want a 750.. but i dont want to get it then have to buy all kinds of stuff right off.. how many miles are the v12's good for?.. my old benz 6 cyl went 350k miles and was still going when i sold it... i just dont know what to lookout for usually going bad on these cars when they get higher miles on them

You're right Wiseguy, you're gonna get flamed especially with that "735/iL's are worthless comment wtf?
I love mine and it's the best car I've ever owned. 190,000 miles and still going strong, with no major repairs, well, except for that nasty driveshaft issue last year. Smooooth as silk baby yeah!!

Easy on the e32 bashing. I've a 1990 735IL w/ 168,000 miles on it. Let me say this, it's more dependable than my 1996 740IL w/94,000 miles. Both are in great condition. My e32 has a straight six "Big six" And gives me good gas mileage.
Gary, check the radiator, fun clutch, water pump, thermostat and a/c compressor. Make sure these parts are in good working condition.
Particularly, check the radator for corrosion around the top radiator hose. Usaually those plastic nipples snap off.
If you're not sure about anything have a tech who is familiar with older BMW's check it out. If these cars are not maintained well through out there life, they can get very expensive to be a "fixer upper."
