Jason, yes it's a Dyson. And yes, it works better than a Hoover Windtunnel despite their attempts to ridicule the Dyson in their commercials :P

We are leaving the ceramic tile flooring for now because we havent decided what we are doing with it yet. In the meantime, the ceramic tile might be best because the dogs tend to scratch up the floors.

Counters we selected Verde Butterfly granite. They come Monday for templating.

I was responsible for 2 things on this project. The hood and the dishwasher :confused As always.. I pulled the "Tim Allen" and got more power. The hood is a Viking 36" hood with a 1200CFM external blower with 9" ducting. HAHA. The dishwasher is a Bosch Integra (tribute to the beater car). That sucker makes only 44dB!

Fridge is a "french door" Maytag. Cooktop is a 36" Viking Gas Cooktop... Oven is a 30" Viking Electric Single oven. It goes under the cooktop. We removed the double oven and knocked down the wall next to it.

Kraftmaid cabinets in maple.

Randy.. just wait till I get the 180 saltwater room separator project done... :D

You must be modding EVERYTHING this summer. It looks really good. Where did you get everything? I work at Lowe's this summer and see all kinds of stuff that I'd want, but I could never make up my mind from all the choices they have (among other home improvement places).

My parents redid their kitchen a few years back and it looks almost identical to yours. They have the dining room open and in the kitchen, but now never use it since they got the one level island/bar. It extends out past the edge so they (and I) can fit our legs underneath. They eat there all the time now because it's most convenient. One question though, will the new island/bar extend so you can put bar stools/chairs underneath it?

The island does not extend... we did not have room... we actually thought about leaving the narrower side open for that purpose but Tina chose to get the cabinets instead.

I think the griddle is a separate option...

Viking 36" Cooktop:

http://store1.yimg.com/I/universal-akb_1851_19890874

Automatic electric spark ignition/re-ignition; burners light at any position on the knob and re-light if extinguished, even at the lowest setting

Permanently sealed burners - spills cannot enter burner box

Automatic electric spark ignition - no standing pilot to re-light, waste energy, or add extra heat to the kitchen

All with a total of 66,000BTU! :buttrock

We almost picked the peacock too...

After I spent $300 on crap to wire up the plasma without any wires showing?

It's a condo. I don't need a 60" monster in my living room.

Edit: did you mean an actual projector? not a rear projector? I don't think it would work. The only wall it could project on is facing 9'5" windows. about 7 of them.

You can get lights that are in a flexible tube/string -- kind of like a large fiberoptic -- and string them along the underside of the cabinet along the lip or along the wall. We used to do those a lot when I worked at Case. I can give you the name of the electrician we subbed the stuff out to if you want.

My cabinets don't have the typical US cabinetry lip/overhang, and going along the wall wouldn't work cos of the tiled backspalsh. :(

So there is no recess on the underside of your cabinets at all? I've never seen that... So are the undersides of your cabinets finished???

Looks great guys. Everyone is redoing their kitchen it appears. I will have my pictures up soon as well. I am taking small steps at the moment.

Dyson is nice -- but the one thing I REALLY HATE about it, it's friggin' HEAVY as hell and bulky. I was looking at 'electrolux???' and those are more expensive than Dyson's. I want something light and easy to use but with good power (HW floors). I am wondering if any vacuum will be sufficient.

Suggestions?

p.s. -- I also changed ALL the bulbs in my place to low energy/high efficiency. BJ's is having a GREAT SALE on them right now. They are $11.99 (60w - 4 bulbs) and $10.99 (3 bulbs - 75W or 100W). The 60W uses 13 watts, 75 watts uses 19 watts, and 100 watts uses 23 watts. You get $4.00 back for the 60W package and $3.00 back for the 75/100W packages. You have a limit of 4 for the 60W and limit of 2 for the 75/100w on a single receipt. So, you need to make multiple trips, or, go through line multiple times.

They have great lumen output. As you know, a generic light bulb, although rated for say 1900 lumens, will only put out about 1100 lumens b/c it's inefficient. Basically, my bathroom used originally, 8 120 watt bulbs = a lot of power. However, now, I am using LESS power than one bulb with more light output. It's pretty sweet.

I'd highly recommend them -- especially for the recessed lighting/track lighting since that sucks A LOT of power over the long run. :)

Yeah - don't clean your floors. :D Seriously, I've had great luck with a Swiffer - very easy to just run it around the HW floors on a regular basis. I find I do it more often when it's less trouble to haul out the vaccuum.

The other advantage to using high efficiency bulbs (or flourescent lighting where you can stand it) is that normal incandescent light sources are much more efficient heaters than they are light-producers. As such, a 100W bulb will put out 80W or so of heat and 20W of light; those 80W are heat that your A/C now has to work to get rid of. I actually swap out incandescent for floursescent in the summer wherever I can to save energy both in the bulb and at the A/C compressor.

Regarding cleaning floors, my wife recently found out that the "spray swiffer," the one with the solution, should NOT be used with pets. It has ammonia in it and can kill your animal if you have a licker....one of our dogs licks the floors, so we threw the spray one out. It was blamed for killing a dog in Ohio.

I sell DLP, LCD and Plasma at work, DLP is the best Pitcture for the $$$, its stupid to waste cash in a plasma UNLESS you must HAVE TO MOUNT IT. Its all about the new 1080p DLP screens, "they're like whoa!!" lol Go to your nearest BOSE store, we actually have HD hooked up CORRECTLY unlike some other chain stores. If you want to see LOTS of tv's hit up a Myer Emco. BTW Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer and Sony all get terrefic reviews on the flat panel technologies, and SAMSUNG is your choive for DLP. If you want JAW DROPPING performance and style, go w/ the new SONY QUALIA, take a look and you'll know what I am talking about :D

I'd look for a used Kirby, Generation 5 if possible, or newer. They are not cheap, they are not light, but they have the best suction I've seen for a vacumn cleaner. Yes, I used to sell these in college (summer job), but every vacumn it went up against, it blew it away. If you want to waste an hour and a half of yours, and some poor blokes time, scheudle (sp) an appt with your local Kirby salesman. They'll clean half your house for free.
