Ok guys, its beyond ridiculous paying 14$ to go roundtrip from NJ to BK and back! I've heard of someone talking once that there are side streets or diffrent routs with NO tolls... any of u guys heard of such thing? i met a hot chick from there and i dont wanna be wastin 40$ a week just to see her!

Umm let's see... Go over the Verrazano, NO, go through the Holland tunnel, NO. Never went any other way but I think where ever you go, your paying a toll.

EDIT: Actually, I remember driving my buddy into the city over the George Washington Bridge via Route 80 and not paying a toll but can't be 100% positive.

Best way is Outer Bridge/Goethals to NY and Holland/Lincoln to NJ.... with EZpass its 4-5 bucks...cheapest way

Only other way is to go way way way way way north and make a big loop. By that time, u spend gobs on gas & time.

If you drive to Albany you can cross the Hudson for free. Them take 9 back to Manhattan and cross the Broolyn Bridge. Just remember to pack lunch.

If you're going into central / south jersey from NYC, NEVER take the verrazanos bridge. That crazy bridge is $8-$9 leaving brooklyn going into Staten Island.

A while back, I remember vaguely skipping tolls entering NYC from upstate NY but I can't remember for the life of me how I did it. Or I could just be dreaming and it really never happened. If you take major highways, I think it's unavoidable to have to pay a toll to enter NYC.

the cheapest way is to take a tunnel, lincoln or holland and cross into Brooklyn at one of the free crossings, ie Williamsburg or Brooklyn bridge. You could drive into upstate NY from the Palisades, go around the hudson river and come back down I-87 and take the willis ave bridge into the city (free) and take on of the other free bridges into Brooklyn but that would probably cost you more in gas money than in tolls.

I think if you go up RT17n you end up in NY throughway, from there I dont know./..

best way is to take the Lincoln; holland is too backed up since there's only 2 inbound lanes at all times while lincoln is dynamic 2, 3 or 4. once there, take the west side highway south to Brooklyn bridge... that means all the way down to south street/pace area. cut across the bridge and you're there.

you gotta pay a toll no matter what.
