John,
Try advertising in Roundel. You'll get a lot more hits on there than you will on the forums - people are notoriously cheap here :stickoutt .
Nice car, I think you should easily be able to get $18-20k for it.
vrsixer 07-14-2005, 10:14 AM I just forwarded this to 2 of my friends who are currently looking...

OK.
I get to keep the wheels (both sets), shocks, engine, trans, seats, brakes and suspension.

UberBimmer 07-14-2005, 06:33 PM you should get alot more then 16 my old neighbor bought a 97 for like 28 like 2 years ago
Biggins 07-14-2005, 07:34 PM You many want to try listing this with the VMSC (Virginia Motorsports Club), Tidewater SCCA, Blue Ridge BMWCCA, etc. for some possible responses. Again, I'd jump on it if I had some more solid and steady income.
LuvMy328is 07-15-2005, 04:10 AM Im trying to sell my g/f my modded 328is as we speak :redspot

thejaff 07-20-2005, 02:55 PM I can't believe you're having such a hard time selling this. Then again, I guess it hasn't been that long. How many miles are on it?

See Post #1.
Most people on these forums already have a BMW. So I'm not surprised it's not selling.
Put it in Roundel and it'll probably be gone in a month, especially for 16k.
My car is a '95 with 70k on it and I wouldn't let it go for less than $16k. :dunno

But that's because your car's famous!
xjohnx 07-20-2005, 03:29 PM 79k miles.
Also included are the stock shifter, stock stereo, bentley service manual, and new rear shock mounts not yet installed.
sKunkman 07-20-2005, 03:57 PM What a good deal. Too bad I don't have the kind of money to do that.

jterp 07-21-2005, 12:12 PM Have you tried carmax? You could take off all the easily accessible mods, sell the car to carmax + sell the mods seperately and probably get close to your asking price. :dunno

Carmax absolutely will RAPE you on an M3. Don't know why, but it's a fact.

Really? Wonder why.. I have never taken an M3 there, but have taken quite a few other cars there and have always been given a good bit more than real dealers had offered. The one in rockville always seemed to have a couple bmw's on the lot.. :dunno

Probably because they use a combination of book/auction values instead of some arbitrary value you feel is appropriate :stickoutt

There definitely is a disconnect between real market value and book value for these cars, E36 or E46. It's impossible to buy a nice used example for what KBB or Edmunds says you can.
Carmax offered Ken something in the mid $30k range for his '03 M3 last summer, IIRC. :confused
jterp 07-21-2005, 12:54 PM Here is the recent manheim market report. I don't know what kbb says, but they might offer you $14k at carmax -- you could keep the stereo, shifter, and rsm's and sell them seperately.. :dunno

Those are definitely low for our market.
And I'm not sure Carmax would even buy a 1996. I think it's too old for them.

Those are autcion results -- so those were likely dealers buying them at that price and marking them up 4k.
