This is bad...

Heaviest Traffic Impacts of 11-year Construction Project Just Ahead -- From 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 15th to 5:00 a.m., Monday, July 18th. northbound I-95/Beltway Outer Loop just west of the Wilson Bridge will be reduced to one lane. Ramps from north and southbound US Route 1 to the Outer Loop will be closed with detours to Telegraph Road. The ramp from northbound I-95/Outer Loop to northbound US Route 1 also will be closed with detours to Telegraph Road. To help divert traffic, where northbound I-95 joins the Capital Beltway at the Springfield Interchange, the ramp to the Wilson Bridge will be closed. Long-distance traffic will be routed around the Beltway in the opposite direction. Local travelers will be directed up I-395. Reducing the Outer Loop to one lane just west of the Wilson Bridge is forecasted to result in weekend backups of 10 to 15 miles, with 60 to 90 minute delays. All travelers are urged to avoid the area, if at all possible. Long distance travelers should consider bypasing Washington DC with alternate routes including US 301 to the east and US 17 to I-81 to the west.

I'll probably feel that in Baltimore.

I saw that. Almost makes me rethink going to manassas for autocross since I need to come down that way to get back to my place. That backup (when they closed it down to TWO LANES) extended all the way back to I66.

Plus, since they are diverting to route 1, everything around me was a nightmare.

Took me 2.5 hours to get from exit 29 on 95 (Laurel) to Van Dorn St in VA. This was Sunday at 11:30 PM... walked in the door at 2:15 AM.

It sucked.

Coming home last night ~11:00 I-95N/I-395N became one lane at the springfield interchange. The funny thing was those signs said "left lane closed" and then they became "2 left lanes closed" and then when I got there I found the VDOT/English translation meant, "All but the far right lane closed" :mad I was not happy, especially after having to go North on Route 1 for 15 miles through F-burg to get around traffic on 95. :mad :mad

Not good news!!! :(

Last summer I commuted from Hagerstown to Rosslyn everyday. Wake up at 5:30am and get home at 7:30pm if I was lucky.

I laugh at all of your misfortunes. Thank God I don't deal with all that anymore.

Go around the other way instead... it may be faster anyway, in fact, I know it's faster that way. No reason to cross the woodrow wilson coming from Baltimore to get to 66.

Yeah 66 = over left

Woodrow wilson = over right/bottom.

Good thing I take backroads to get my job. It still takes me 30+ mins to get from springfield to vienna.

Any opinions as to how this will affect I-95 S south of DC? I'm going out of town tomorrow by that route and I expect to deal with beach-goers but I wonder what impact this will have...

If you are heading to the Outer Banks, leave the MAR as late as possible. And for crap's sake, take a Smart Tag with you to breeze through the toll booth south of Chesapeake. I do that drive at least twice a week to the beach house, and you do NOT want to sit in traffic behind all those room-temperature-IQ drivers in Ohio minivans.

FWIW, a friend left last Sat. around lunchtime from Fairfax Station, and it took him 5 hours to get from Chesapeake to Nags Head. I left at 8 PM, and it took 1 hour and 10 minutes to cover that same stretch.

If you HAVE to leave in the daytime with all the other lemmings, consider taking I-95 all the way down to Rocky Mount, NC, and follow I-64 all the way to the beach. No traffic and high speed limits (65-75 mph) can make up for the extra 60-70 miles.

I left Friday afternoon (starting south of the beltway already) at 12:45 or so and was in Richmond by 3:30. No sweat. :) I was amazed how little traffic there was. I wasn't going to the beach so I can't comment onthe rest of that drive.
