I am going to buy a 1977 320i w/ 200,000 miles for $500. The automatic tranny acts funny though. If I start it cold (in the mornings) I have to let it warm up for like 5-10min before it will shift right. It shifs hard, just as hard as my Th350 with a shift kit in my s10, is this normal as I am not familiar with older BMWs?

If the tranny is going out how spendy are they to gets parts for (assuming they aren't too hard to rebuild?

no thats pretty badass if it still will shift that hard.
sounds like someone put the wrong fluid in it (like powershift fluid).. maybe not.. if its really realy cold out, thats normal. its old car man... let it go till she blows up. id put money that it will go till 300k no prob.
also maybe sometihng put a shift kit in it. or did it themselves.

bmw trannys are no different that any other tranny.
its a pain, u WILL mess up. i doubt uve done it before, ive done a couple auto trans while i was in school, and its tough. but, if u can look at sometihng will 1000 pieces all apart, jumble them around, and put it all back together perfectly , u got a shot at it.
