View Full Version : E36 M3 vs VW R32 "outramped"
RRdawho? 07-07-2005, 02:11 PM Well,
I was driving home from the dentist today, when I came across a Silver VW R32 at the left turn light. Looked modified, had a really nice sounding exhaust to it, and this was a 2 lane left light turn.
I was on the inside, him on the outside. Upon making the left, I got behind him, and apparently we were both getting on the highway. No one in front of us, I knew he was gonna have something up his sleeve. :shifty The on-ramp going onto the hwy is the full downhill slope 360 roundabout style onramp and I noticed he took it quite agressively as if to loose me.
OOOO a handling match, its game now :devillook
I match him and take it at the same speed, and take the ramp at a little wider angle to ease into the turn w/ a better line, throughout the onramp, im on his ass, $hit in my car flying around :pissed: until the end of the onramp, where the turn gets slightly tighter. The merger is two lane, into one lane, then merge onto hwy type on-ramp.
Next thing you know, SQUUUUUUEAAALLL and the R32 goes into a understeer crosses the white line and almost hits another car on the other lane  He was taking way too firmly into the radius of the turn:nono In the meantime, my car stays firmly planted, not even a squeak from my car it points where I want it to go, easing out at the end of the one ramp. The R32 driver clearly flustered, he guns it some more and high tails out of the merging lane onto the highway as fast at that little bugger can go.
My engine was still warming up, so I decided not to follow him and injure my poor little S52, besides gas is expensive :shifty
liilpa09 07-07-2005, 02:15 PM nice run. I love it when those R32's get beat. they think that they have the best cars in the world and when a car that is at least 6 years older than theirs beats it, that's gotta hurt. Way to put him in his place.
JBgotM 07-07-2005, 02:44 PM nice, I did the same thing to a GTO yesterday, that was fun

is this neccesary?
yeah some pricks drive R32's just like some pricks drive BMWs.
At least wait until somone makes a dumb comment to throw that out there. A McLaren F1 is from '94 which is 3 years older than your M3 and would hand all of us our butts.
hahah thats what you get for running 255 tires all around ;)

like thats really in context... :rolleyes
Even if we were all driving Z8s...this would be the case

Alot around where i am staying right now, are total fools. they may as well be 350Z drivers. Its not that they're cocky, just that they have too much pride in something that is crap...There really isn't anything great about an R32...I'd still rather have a 330ci, even if the R32 would beat it.
But BMW owners are dam ridiculous too at times.. Especially the ones who are rich kids and have no idea how to drive their car...

the context is an older car beating a newer car. Price wasn't factored in.
and yes the Z8 is slower than the McLaren, which is exactly my point. Age has nothing to do with which car is faster.
gti1689 07-07-2005, 04:47 PM it's an alright car. european car just tested one w/an aem intake, magnaflow exhaust, a short shifter, and revo software that went a 13.55 @ 101.08. it put down 202 awhp. it's a little on the heavy side, and it doesn't handle as well and the holy m3, but it does have a nice exhaust note.

As JBgotM stated already pricks can drive any type of car. Why is it necessary to have a pasionate hate for somebody else's car? Maybe I'll go out and get a shelby cobra or a gt40 and knock your m3 down a notch.
It'd be really super duper painful getting beat by a car atleast 20 years older than yours. Atleast if you follow the logic you stated. :rolleyes
slickav 07-07-2005, 05:23 PM This turned ugly real fast.
I love the R32, I wouldnt fork over the cash for one, but I do admire them when they cruise by :cool
E36///M3 07-07-2005, 06:45 PM was this the ramp going to 280 from 35?
nismo skyline 07-07-2005, 06:49 PM werd the R32s do look really cool, and i love their exhaust note. it would make a cool little beater. check out this movie on www.euromelee.com of the r32
NOCTURNAL 07-07-2005, 07:41 PM Good stuff! way to take that dude in the corners. REppin the bay bimmers!!!
RRdawho? 07-07-2005, 09:43 PM Whoa there guys, no need to get all bent out of shape or start bashing other cars...that was not the intent of my thread :nono
Chill out.
Cacatfish 07-08-2005, 01:07 AM I was disappointed in the acceleration of the R32 when I had occasion to do a short run against one on a two lane road...but I was very impressed with the overall package when I saw a stock-appearing one mopping up the field at Thunderhill. Only car faster was an E39 M5.
I know driver is the main factor, but I was still impressed.
ellinopedo182 07-08-2005, 05:10 AM only pricks drive R32's. And we have no idea how to drive, we aren't anything better than 350z drivers. well said.
personally, i have yet to lose to an e36 m3. As i have stated in an earlier thread about r32's, they are very similar in performance. Plus, if the guy driving the car knew how to drive his r32, he would have shown you that the r32 is much better at handling than what he can do.
All the r32 owners in my area are in their 30-40's, im the only one i know thats actually 21 years old and driving an r32. On the other hand, i see MANY kids driving e36 m3's thinking they are something special because they drive a bmw.

Well I wont generalize, but I was only speaking of my area and r32 drivers...
But you're right about the bimmers... more of them are driven by rich kids than by adults. I see completely decked out e46 Ms, then this obvious teenager with a backwards cap on... Thats not really a problem that they're driven by kids, but its those kids who think they own the road, not only them, but some bimmer drivers in their 20s thinking they are better than the next 20 yr old driving an Audi...
fastdream 07-08-2005, 08:29 AM I'm just an old married w/children guy (ok, only 29, but I FEEL old)...
I love E36 E46 M3s, I love R32's, I love Audis, and I'm about to get my love on with a '02 wrx subie as well. I don't think I'm a prick. Most of the pricks in these here parts are in pickup trucks or cop cars. If you have it in your mind that all or most drivers of a particular car are pricks, then that is how you are going to perceive every person in that car, until they prove otherwise. That's kind of backwards, IMO. The things you dwell on become the largest in your mind and self-fulfilling.
The R32 is a good car off the lot, and with a few tasty mods (as with most good cars) the R32 becomes amazing. I wish I could buy one just as a "beater". Sheesh. You rich guys :D A friend of mine has a 450hp S4 as a daily beater to keep his x50 in the garage. Man. I wish he would adopt me...but anyway.
I'm glad this kill story involved what makes these two cars great, turning at speed! Whoohoo. Nice story! Nice kill with driver skill, and maybe a little help from your machine :)
Straigtaways are times to adjust yourself and steady your mind and machine for the next corner, and make safe passes around slower cars.
/rambling off
RRdawho? 07-08-2005, 10:23 AM Sheesh, looking at the time of these posts some people don't sleep! :rofl
The M is my beater/track car. I'm auto-Xing it this saturday, and on the 29th im looking forward to track day at thunderhill :D
Now if I only had more money for new tires, they're so expensive for the M :(
Edit: Im 20 :shifty
JBgotM 07-08-2005, 10:36 AM I'm 25, and the 2 other M3's that will be at the auto-x with me this weekend have drivers that are ~32 and ~60 years old. In contrast, there 2 R32s at the last event, ~20 and about ~27.
It really doesn't matter, don't let a couple "elitists" get to your head. Just hope they get their doors blown off by something older and faster :D

That my friend is the difference between the 60/40 weight distribution of the RS32, and the 50/50 split of the M3! Having the engine hanging out over the front axle creates lots of understeer in those situations!

hey! i got home late with my ex gf (good stuff), so imo its ok to come home late even on weekdays when u have done something productive ;) !
bmw's are great cars, i want an M, but now... im thinking twice. I'm moving to europen in a yeah for school and am wondering if i should get an e46 M and bring it there, or wait for a newer cobra, or something else. :(
SilverStreak 07-08-2005, 06:37 PM Ibiza, quit dragging people's threads thru the mud... I almost locked this one...
