on July 4th, on I-80 from Des Moines back to Chicago around 12:30 noon, most of the time, I drive like 90-100mph as traffic permit, or less left lane hoggers....

approaching a E55 AMG...at 90 mph....he move to the right....letting me pass...then as I pass....he started to accelerate at the same time....i smile at him he smile at me....the next thing i know....my gauge shows..140mph..speed limiter kicks in...and he passes me by easily. :buttrock ......

We exchange lead couple for the next hour or two. so....only slow down when we see 2 state tropper......it was a fun trip.... :D ...to bad he exit b4 reaching I-88, I reach chicago in less than 4 hour.....a distance of 380 miles...really make me feel like autobahn....anyone read this and know a friend drive a silver E55 with Iowa plate....tell him i siad thanks....for the fun...

NOW.....anyone can give me direction or advise to remove my speed limiter....i read E36 M3 have a max speed of 153mph due to gear ratio.....any feed back...thanks.....

mrunner, you remind me of WeiBCoupeE36 (i think that is right user) with all of the .........what about.........and the .........

But it's all good.

To remove speed limiter, you need to get software or shark injector. I didn't check what year you are. If you are 95, you buy software. If you are 96-99 you buy a shark injector.

I80 to 294N to I88W?

I would have thought that he'd pass you way before 140. Nice race.

I-80W then I-88W back to chicago......I do think that he didn't floor the E55..he prolly will leave me from the 120 mph mark, I pushed mine so hard....by the time i reach chicago, CEL came out code 133,....O2 sensor over heat, delayed respond etc......

You need more than that..Even on the old E55

The Shark injector would be the cheapest way to remove the speed limiter. Of course you can always go the way of custom tuning etc etc to do whatever you want ;)

ahahahah guys....I don't look forward to beat a E55, a whooping 490hp, $80k car....just wanted to fully used my M3 to the limit. So, is Turnermotorsport a site to buy the shark injector???thanks

I dunno which is cheaper. I got mine at www.understeer.com I like chris from there, he is a good guy. But I know he normally has some of the cheaper prices around for all of his parts. Check him out and the turner site. See which is best.

yeah, you're prolly right, paced, till he let it go on long enough, then just proved that he could've spanked him anywhere along the way. ;D

he'd leave you a lot sooner than that. either way it's always fun to drive fast next to a beast like that.

If you honestly feel you need to remove your speed limiter to maximize your street driving potential, the speed limiter is the least of your problems. :eyecrazy

ah yes, but why have artificial limitations on a machine that can do more?

I can definitely understand wishing to remove artificially imposed speed limitations, even if it's just on the principal of knowing that your car can now run to it's capacity.

Anyway. Sounds like you had a good time, glad for you it didn't turn into jail time!

To be honest, I have no intention to be racing often at speed more than 140mph. I'm pretty sure that all you guys out there own other car prior your current ride and would love to push every single car to the limit to see what it is capability is, and "Top end Speed" just one of the testing criteria. I used to own a s/c Civic SI, it get me to 160 mph but handle pretty bad on corners, hence feel unsafe at high speed.

I'm just curious about E36 M3 capability, a car with almost 10 year old technology. I've did all my best to test it's capabilty and handling at low speed, was very amazed and impressive with the feedback from the car. Just hoping with the speed limiter removed, I can see how the car feel at it's top end speed, of course would be great to have a E55 again as a pacing car ..... agree?

I never been a bimmer lover till I own this car for the first 5 min. It's like love at first sight. Bought it without a test drive at all, just plain faith on M technology, although the dealer give me a 300 miles unconditional return policy. Already saving money on a E46, hopefully the E36 will last me till I save enuf.

nice area, yeah i stay in arlington heights...the burbs :confused i'm not there very often, but i keep my gti there, so maybe sometime we can get together.

when it was new, the e36 m3 was kinda like an e46 in terms of performance in relation to its competitors (i.e. always on top :)). now, it has kinda progressed into just a faster older BMW. it's still worth it, but i'd save up for an e46. beautiful looks, good performance, and the ability to say that you own the last real BMW...well at least the last BMW the looks like a BMW.

oh yeah

hmmm.....I might be wrong but it seems the E30 is the genuine, authentic M3, very very balanced overall not the current E46, hope to have one when I can afford it. E36 seems like a by product for the current E46, agree? E36 have sufficient torque but lack in HP, although bearing in mind it is a 10 year old VANOS. But you kinda rite, E46 might be the last I-6 M3..........BMW = Best inline I-6 Machine on Wheel

By the way, I never been in a G35 b4, how does it feel? as in aka SKYLINE without the ATTESSA.

going above 140 is kinda scary..even in a bmw...also downright dangerous... e55 are mean cars to play with

Yes, 469hp for the current version, 349hp for the previous version, and a ton of torque for either version - they're very serious highway cruisers and do quite well around town too. They also have some nice styling touches that the E-class sport doesn't get.

dangerous yes, scary? no. LoL, I took my car to 140 liek twice in teh first week, I jsut went to a deserted two lane (one direction) road that parallels the interstate, where nothing intersects it, and got it up.

what kind of diff/gears did you have?

i think after 130 it all kinda feels the same. not that i've ever been going 200, but going 160 is no more scary than 130

I raced an E55 last month from a light. Actually, it wasn't even a race...guy handed me my arse royally. :(

I was amazed on how loud the E55's traction control was. Total monster.

i had my little 320A {yes carby} up to 140mph a while back.
bugger me if that wasnt scary, fun, but scary. the front was lifting.
i got a M front lip and that helped.

there is a boring run i do here from adelaide to pt lincoln {im in south australia} its about 470 miles long, there is a section about 10 miles long without a single intersection, driveway, or crest. its good for V-max testing.

To me its like doing a 130 you might as well see how much fast you can get cuss either way if you crash; your going to die or if you get cought your still going to jail for recless driving. :dunno just my $.02
