View Full Version : evo vs. e36 m3
Duskin 07-07-2005, 02:44 AM well today i just got my aquamist 1s system installed so i decided i should go driving. i get into the left turn lane and i look and see that i am behind and evolution, it was sliver and still had the dealer plates. the light turns green and he gets over in the far lane i shift in to second gear and he slows down for me at around 35(by the way the speed limit is 55)i look over and see that he has three passengers.he gives it a little gas and then goes for it so i WOT and he gets ahead. he stops pulling, i start to reel him in when i hit third i was about at his door then and keep pullin and slowly pass him we shut off about eighty and he was about at my rear tire :buttrock .
then i start to slow down. my car starts making this wierd noise and kind of hesitating so i keep slowing down and take the next possible turn. i pull into a parking lot and my idle is just bouncing up and down and my check engine light turns on. so i tried calling my friend, no answer . my house wasnt far from there so after trying to call whoever i could think of. My house isnt that far so i decide to just try to make it back i get home alright and let my car idle and it just bounces around and about 30 secs i turn it off. if anyone could give me and idea of what is wrong with my car. help would be appreciated
WeiBCoupeE36 07-07-2005, 02:51 AM bad idle control valve?...dirty maybe...just speakin cuz my friends Ti did that before and thats wat it was
Red Herring 07-07-2005, 03:20 AM check your oxygen sensors
Cacatfish 07-07-2005, 12:51 PM Check for vacuum leaks, especially around the aquamist nozzle and the bypass valve.
giterdone 07-07-2005, 01:02 PM LOL sucks, about the car. Good race with the Evo. What is the aquamist 1s system?
Duskin 07-07-2005, 01:53 PM its water/alcohol injection

Quite possibly you blew a non secure hose off and now have a vacuum leak.

Duskin 07-07-2005, 02:53 PM thanks guys a lot for all the advice

yep, thats my vote,
I had a hose pop off during auto-x and the car started doing stuff like that so i nursed it back to grid and secured the pipe.
aeryk7 07-07-2005, 03:12 PM If you are supercharged you should have done better against an evo. I took one for nearly 2 car lengths from around 65 mph cant remember what speed we stopped but it wasnt more than 90mph. I had an 95 e36 m3 with chip and intake.
Duskin 07-07-2005, 05:28 PM drivers do make a difference and evos are low 13 second cars and 95 m3's are low 14 second cars

but stock Evos die out up top. Because their turbo cuts the amount of boost they get. When I raced one, our 3rd gears were pretty much even, and I started to slowly creep away in 4th, when the only thing I had done to my car, was heavy ass 19" rims and a lip spoiler.
Duskin 07-07-2005, 05:55 PM i didnt get into 4th only part of 3rd but once i got in third i started pulling i bet if i went longer i would of pulled a lot more

yeah, they can change that boost cutting thing, I forget what they do. But stock it naturally cuts them down by like 4 lbs of boost.
The one I raced, we took off from like 35, I was in second, he pulled me about 1 1/2 cars (my front bumper, his rear bumper), I shifted to third, and luckily he missed his shift, I caught up and we were dead even through third. Then it is like i said. Down low they are straight up killers
nismo skyline 07-07-2005, 06:15 PM i raced an evo mr from a 50 mph roll. i was 3rd i dont know what gear he was in, but i immediately put a bus length on him once i dropped the hammer. those turbos do die in the top end.
slcook54 07-07-2005, 06:19 PM Doesn't sound right, I raced my friend with a modded Evo, exhaust, intake, Airfuel controller, boost controller and a few other things. From a 3rd gear roll at 65mph I can hold him off until I have to shift then he gets by me. My car should be supercharged in about a week, should be interesting to see the tables turned. Although, he did just install some HKS cams, he says he is at about 370hp. I should relatively close to that. Can't wait for a rematch.

WTF?!?!?! with 218whp? They don't die out until like 4th. and a bus length period is a LOT FASTER.
nismo skyline 07-07-2005, 06:29 PM heh before this gets crazy let me add he has a turboback exhaust, and a boost leak god knows where. so hes losing a lot of power because of that leak. oh and he cant drive well either.
edit:
it must suck to have a brand new car w/warranty and not be able to take it in to get serviced correctly to avoid voiding the warranty.
aeryk7 07-07-2005, 09:50 PM do they make this car in an auto /steptronic? cause too many stories here sound weird
slcook54 07-07-2005, 10:14 PM No.
Duskin 07-07-2005, 10:20 PM actually in japan i know they had an auto evo 7.
slcook54 07-07-2005, 10:35 PM Well, we're not in Japan are we?
CobaltFire 07-07-2005, 10:36 PM The problem with people driving Evo's is that they are VERY peaky cars, and are NOT meant for drag racing. They do great on road courses, but they just don't have the tuning stock to do well on the street. They bog in first if you don't fry the clutch, and then it takes a while to get back up to power. The gears are pretty widely spaced on the 5-speeds, but the MR's are quite a bit closer. Also, a lot of the guys driving these aren't used to a factory turbo'd car and can't handle the power delivery differences (as in, their habits are different), giving them a large disadvantage. On that note, they are still a damned fast car, and I wouldn't challenge one in an M3 unless I knew I had some extra power in it.

LOL, makes much more sense now. Thanks for clearing that up. ;)
300ZXNA 07-08-2005, 06:21 AM another thing to remember is that one reason why their 1/4 mile time is so good is because they can put down incredible 60' times due to their AWD. So if you are racing from a stop, they are very hard to beat because proper driving will give them a huge jump off the line. Now, if you race from 40-120, now you are in a whole different ballgame. Things get much closer then.
GG///M3 07-08-2005, 09:56 AM whos tunning are you using with ur Sc kit?
