View Full Version : Dent/Wheel/Scratch Fest - NJ - July 30th

I'm thinking of holding another "fest"..

The last one was a "Dent-Fest" - with Brian Romer, Paintless Dent Removal providing a discounted cash service for people who were interested.

Since SWMBO has managed to get a few door-dents in the 5-Touring, I would like to see Brian again.

I have also contacted http://www.jsalloy.com/ - which is a place that does on-site wheel repairs - like on curb-rash.

I've seen the results of this work at car dealers (saw before and after) - and they can make wheels look like brand new. Dunno exactly how they do it - and they do protect their process - ie - we can't watch them do it, but the results I've seen have been excellent.

The same place also does paintless scratch repair... and will offer this also.

They have offered to do wheels for $85 each for painted wheels, $95 per machine finished. List prices for the services is $115-140 for painted, $150-175 for machine finished.

They'd also provide the paintless scratch repair, price to be determined.

Brian Romer of Brian Romer Paintless Dent Repair was at our last dent-fest and his work speaks for itself. He heavily discounts his prices for our events, but final price is strictly up to him. He typically did charge $40-60 per dent, or in some cases gave a "panel" price (all dents in a certain panel..)

ALL prices for this event would be CASH prices.

There is no markup on the prices - all deals are between anyone who comes to the event and the person providing the service. I make nothing for doing this - but I might do an article for BMW-CCA Roundel on it if it if they have any interest.

I haven't located a venue for the event, but I have a few in mind (we need garage space for Brian) - it will be someplace in NJ, probably central NJ.

Date still to be finalized (have to check with the people providing the services) - but right now I'm thinking around July 30th (a Saturday) or July 31st (Sunday).

If you have any interest - please let me know - an Email is good, a PM is OK.

If there is enough interest I'll start putting the wheels in motion to make it happen! There is no restriction on what brand/make/model of car you can bring but hopefully the majority will be BMWs ..

NOTE - I am crossposting this to other forums, groups I'm in and anyplace else I think BMW enthusiasts may hang out. Please only respond once!

Thanks!

I know Brian...he's a great guy. Exremley talented at what he does. Took a dent out of my old 330Ci that the body shop told me was "impossible to repair without bondo and paint work". Took him about 15 minutes.

Although i have no problems with any of my cars, i got a lot of friends that abuse the piss out of their cars. I would be interested.

I would come for the dent removal no doubt. Dropping $300 to get rid of my 5 dents around the car is so worth it. Count me in

I wish I lived a little closer to NJ. Friend of mine has a Saab with some dents/scratches that she was quoted $800 for. Definately not $800 of damage but I guess they're trying to screw her over.

i'd be interested. i have a couple of long scratches on both sides of my car (from someone's keys) that just won't come out.

How much would he want to remove these? They aren't incredibly deep but they are definitely visible.

i have heard that you cant just bondo and paint aluminum wheels...

i have heard that you cant just bondo and paint aluminum wheels...
you can. it's a cheap and quick cover up to the real damage.

you bondo the area that was curbed then paint over it to match the rest of the wheel - or paint the whole wheel.

this MUST be done while the wheel is mounted with a tire. when you go ahead and change tires, the tire machine will tear up the bondo work and you'll have to start all over again. many used car buyers find this out the hardway.

there was a thread about this a few years ago - run a search for it and you'll see a step by step on how to scam people. ie - buyer beware of used rims. :dunno

jb weld is another popular alternative since it's pretty durable.

unless you paint the whole rim, which would just look funny and wouldnt be original, nor would it match the other ones, so you would have to get them all done...

the guy at my body shop said he would do them right for 75 bucks a wheel... i think he said he has to add (melted) aluminum and sand it to look right, but he said no bondo and no paint... any ideas on how this works?

themadhatter
07-27-2005, 10:12 AM
that makes sense since you need to build up the lip metal. He doesn't add melted metal, he welds metal on. pouring molten aluminum onto an alloy wheel isn't going to do much besides flake off.

you're best bet is to take it to a professional rim repair facility - there are a dozen in and around NYC. these guys do the work on a daily basis to all sorts of wheels with all types of damage.

don't shop by price, shop by quality because you will get what you pay for.

the bondo trick that I mentioned is nothing more then a quick fix to hide a problem, it's not something I would do.

anyone... is July 30 a go or no? :confused

thats why i'm asking because i would never pay that much for a bondo job, u would have to re-do it everytime you wanted to mount a new tire...

dent removals i would probably be down for... do they fix little stone and door chips too?
