i'm thinking of going the black rim/polished lip look on my new 330ci

i rocked the CSL's on my last one (titanium silver) and they just aren't as dynamic on the alpine white.


i've always thought the black on polished look was terrible.

but now, i'm having some serious second thoughts.

i want your suggestions of what rims to do it with on the 330. post pics, if you can.

It is a good idea, but- and this is just me talking- ever nice car I see in the city anymore has black wheels with polished lips. Bentley, Rover, BMW, Maserati....you know what I'm talking about.


If anything I'd say you'd stand out more leaving them stock- they already look hot.

yeah you're right. i saw a maybach outside the office this morning with black/polished. it caught me off-guard to say the least.

it HAS to be dropped by the end of the summer.

one of my buddies has an alpine e46 sedan with 19" Comps staggered and they look very nice on his car. ofcourse he needs a drop as well. He wanted to go with black but after we did some photoshop fun, we came to the conlcusion that they wont stand out as well if they were black. Also add a lip spoiler, if it doesnt have one already. It will complement the lines and give the car a "sportier" look.

and i wasnt even thinking about using my wheels. i dont thing my wheels are the best for doing that- as the spokes come all the way out to the lip. i was thinking something with a dish of sorts.

gunmetal > black. When rims are black, you can't tell what the are. Are they dirty? Or are they some beautiful pieces of metal that you spent a few grand on? I don't know. Gunmetal, on the other hand, you still get the appeal of having darker wheels, but people can actually tell if you have stockies or some 4K BBSs.

but... i'm gonna order high-gloss zhp style shadowline trim in a few months, and i am thinking i should keep the car to just using basic colours. white/black/tan (interior)

here's a pic of my wheels when they were on my last car.

this is why i dont think it'd work... the spokes meet the lip all the way to the tire, making it difficult to determine where you would paint and where you would polish.

I don't like black wheels. I think they look bad... sorta cheap, like steelies. Here's how my car looked when I first picked it up:

um... leo. i love what you've done with the front rim. now i guess i really do have to buy a new one.

did you tint my car darker? i'm gonna keep it 35% but prolly re-do the tint with non-reflective tint. the shadowline is gonna come right after i drop it.


as for the totally black csl's; that would just look awful. doing anything to the csl's would look bad IMO. i'd have to get sr comps or something.


tuna- your car did look quite ugly with the black wheels. both the ASA and m contour's look good. i'd prolly go with contours but in a polish or hypersilver on your e36... i think the m contour is the best looking rim ever for the e36.


and about the black zhp's... that sounds absolutly awful. the csl's look ten times better than the already HAWT zhp wheels, but black would just be an eyesore.

There is a guy local to me and his summer car is a white M3 and it has some nasty hot 19" black wheels with a polished lip. It is awesome!!! Go to www.wheelsnext.com (http://www.wheelsnext.com) and they have some sweet ones that I am getting when the new 330ci comes out. do it, do it!
