Well, the M-Roadster is said to come next spring. Probably it will be shown on this IAA (Internationa Auto Fair) in Frankfurt/Germany in late summer, but I'm not sure about this. There are concepts for a coupe availible in Munich but I have no idea if or when they will build this car. For sure there will be an M-Version if the coupe really comes.

So... Noone really knows anything ;)

Yeah, but then again if you look at the Porsche Cayman, they just might. . . but the original M Coupe will always be a classic.

I thought the equivalent of the new M Coupe (if we get it) would be a 2-door version of the current 1-series? :dunno I read somewhere it could be called the M2?

First time I heard of anything like that? There are already some spy shots out of the Z4 M Roadster.

Many photos of test mules, but with the recent surge of new photos in the past couple months, things might turn out true.
I have read on both Bimmerfest and other messageboards that the MZ4 is most likely have the new and improved S54N engine, not the V8. THe main reason for this is to NOT compete against the newer M3. The M3 is BMW's masterpiece and why develope a car that will run rings around it with the stronger V8 engine. It makes better marketing to have the "current" M3 engine - - at least for now.
I guess we will all have to wait and see.

Car and Driver this month said that there will be a coupe version, and a 1 series too, both to be brought to the US. I asked the dealership today, after test driving a 3.0 and they had no clue.

I really don't see a market for it. The reason BMW didn't design one from the get-go is that the M-coupe didn't sell well originally. It's like one of those movies that does poorly in theaters, but is popular on video; it's much more sought after on the used market than it was when it was new. The only people I see wanting a new M Coupe are people with the old one, meaning the market has not grown.

Autocar wrote that the rationale behind an M Coupe based on the Z4 was to compete with the upcoming Cayman from Porsche. I personally don't know how successful the Cayman will be - for the estimated prices, you can buy a couple of early 996s. For the money, I'd get a new Boxster S, Z4, or early 996 cab and add a hardtop. Coupe comfort with the option of open-top motoring.
