I posted this in Audio as well, but I thought I might get good info here.

We're going to be picking up a 2004 X5 3.0 for my mom in the next few days and we would like to be able to hook an Ipod up to the sound system. Unfortunately I have a feeling The stealer will bend me over on the official setup, and I have to pay for this myself.

It has the 16:9 Nav in it, and we need to retain CD function, preferably no wire splicing, but if it's absolutely necessary I guess a little wouldn't be too bad.

Basically I need a few ideas on which products to use and how to retain cd changer function.

Thanks for the help guys.

Because of the Nav, which has the cassesst deck behind the screen I do not think you are able to retain CD functionality with the I-pod setup. Check with www.dension.com.

I use the iTrip FM-modulator with our iPod. Basically, you plug it into the top of your iPod, then tune your radio to an unused local frequency, then the iPod syncs to that frequency. Install takes only as much time as it takes you to tune your radio!!! Downside is that the sound quality is only as good as your FM-receiver...which is usually not that great... but at least you have iTunes in your X5, and it is easily transferred to whichever car you happen to be driving. I use ours in all of our cars whenever I have the iPod with me...

With your restriction of keeping the CD changer, I think your only option is to get the AUX input kit from your dealer. At less than $40 bucks, it's actually not that bad of an option. It will sound just as good as the ipod interface adapter and much much better than an RF(FM) modulator.

I have the Blitzsafe adapter and I absolutely love it, the iPod is hardwired to the X
