I am about a week away from purchasing my dream 2002 M5 Chiaretto red. It's the model with NAV and so it does not have a CD player. Does anybody know about the wiring and if i can put an aftermarket CD player in there easily? I can't seem to find any info on the net about aftermarket audio systems for that model. Could you point me to a solution?

My e39 is same. Your car is pre-wired for the trunk mounted changer. This is what you want.

is that the only option? i really would like to put a nice single disc cd/mp3 player in there.

I think an '02 model will have the cassette player behind the nav screen. Some '03 models came with a cd player behind the nav screen instead.

Your only option is to install a changer in the trunk, pretty easy to find used. I wouldn't butcher up the nice widescreen Nav unit with an aftermarket stereo. If you do, let me know, I'll take the screen off your hands ;)
