View Full Version : iForged E39 540i Supercharged by VF Engineering
AznAir23 06-15-2005, 09:22 PM just got the car back last friday...wanted to drive it for a few days before i post my thoughts about the supercharger...the car runs really smooth and the power is linear (as you can see in the dyno charts)...the first couple of days the car felt like the ecu was still adapting but after i put about 100 miles on it the car feels better and better and now everytime i drive the car i just have a big smile on my face :woot:...i'm really surprised by how smooth the car is when driving it chill and when you get on the gas pedal you can hear the car scream and the car just MOVES :wowee: ...enough said for now...i've included pics of the dyno chart and a few pics of the car...lastly i just want to say thanks to nik, ely, jeff and the rest of the crew at VF Engineering...you guys did a great job

525iT_Feen 06-15-2005, 11:00 PM You own a very nice car.
If I were you I would have an e6 front and rear, but thats just me.
Nice work.
jimmyz2 06-16-2005, 12:53 AM Welcome and hot car.How much boost are you running?
AsianImage 06-16-2005, 12:57 AM I am wiping the drool off my keyboard now......
you car is the shizzle my nizzle...
sdwhitney 06-16-2005, 01:08 AM Ok, the car is beautiful and congrats on the S/C....
But, 344 rwhp after a s/c?
Jimmy, what have you dyno'd at?
Are the ratings of the ESS and Dinan at the crank? I thought these cars were putting 400rwhp?
I am open to be corrected if I am wrong, but if I am wrong then I might be looking for a bi-turbo instead of a s/c when I am ready. Or maybe just sell and buy something that can get me closer to the 500 rwhp area..

The ESS and the Dinan show crank horsepower not wheel horsepower. On the Dynojets there are losses of 18-20% on rear wheel drive cars. The car is putting around 410 to the crank
///M LIFE© 06-16-2005, 01:39 AM Wow that car is looking spectacular. Good job

That's about right. ESS and Dinan ratings are at the crank. 344rwhp converted to at crank (assuming close to 20% trans loss factor) is close to 420hp.
Stock and lightly modified E39 540's dyno at around 240-250hp in general

sweet poison 06-16-2005, 04:14 AM OK I was debating on getting black rims on my 540, I was thinking maybe black on black would be to much, and then I saw your car  and it looks georgeous. I am getting me new rims now hehe,tx. Your car is soooo sweet, I am jealous. Enjoy it, you did a more then just great job on it
The Beastmaster 06-16-2005, 04:27 AM Damn! Ivana's looking GOOD!
The Beastmaster 06-16-2005, 04:29 AM very nice... who makes the rad cap?
Those are BilletWerks covers. Jim Powell designed those several years ago and it is sold through Apexcone.com.

E34 540's are in the same stock and lightly modified bracket at around 240-250.
There is a guy near me that says he can build the bi-turbo, but it will cost me. Maybe I will need to give him a call?
Or, maybe I should start checking the interest in selling mine, anyone?

344 Rwhp is about what stock M5's put down.

SehrSchnell 06-16-2005, 12:37 PM Very nice. How many SC has VF done to 540's now? Am I correct that the VF 540 SC is fairly new?

I dyno'd 370 rwhp with a faulty crank sensor. Now I am waiting(it has already shipped) for my new gear drive Powerdyne head unit.I read on superchargersOnline.com where a guy in a Mustang did the upgrade and got an additional 100 hp.We will see very shortly. And I am only running less than 6psi.If you turbo you are looking at engine rebuild and turbo parts-maybe $10-20k.
AznAir23 06-16-2005, 02:19 PM ooh!!! I want one (VF supercharger) How much?
I would contact VF directly at 714-528-0066. They would be able to answer technical questions as well.
Boostedjuice 06-16-2005, 02:25 PM I love your car, that is absolutely gorgeous in every way. If you don't mind me asking how much for the S/C kit installed?

The dyno run was done right after the supercharger install...the car runs a lot better now since I put about 200 miles on it...it wasn't really fair to dyno the car right away because the ecu takes time to adapt...the number should be about 355 to the rear wheels...and my exhaust system is kinda restrictive right now...i'm going to get custom 3" piping done and high flow cats...hopefully i'll get another 10-15 rhp...
AznAir23 06-16-2005, 03:12 PM thanks guys for all the kind words... :D

Yeap that sounds about right; dont forget to post the new dyno run after you do it, im very interested... Mines supposed to get SC'd before the end of summer. :buttrock

I am not sure but I did read DB540 said the price is $6K plus installation. Only if I have $6 laying around.
poorman1 05-04-2006, 10:30 PM hmmm... i have a 97 6spd supercharged by vf and it graphed 440hp and 403tq.
dataro 05-04-2006, 11:14 PM Dude I need to know where you got the rear bumper and how you customed the dual rear exhaust PLEASE!!!!! YOUR CAR IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
onewhippedpuppy 05-04-2006, 11:26 PM Damn. Just.......damn.
e39dream 05-05-2006, 12:03 AM looks sweet! I think your interior should be donated to thebeastmaster though, purple on purple. Another blown 540i- you should join bimmerfest.com, you'll fit right in there.
angrypancake 05-05-2006, 12:15 AM Dude I need to know where you got the rear bumper and how you customed the dual rear exhaust PLEASE!!!!! YOUR CAR IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
it's a g-power rear bumper. check his website http://www.projekte39.com/
thread revival ftw
1/2Man1/2Amazng 05-05-2006, 12:27 AM Yeah, I was gonna say. The whp with the SC puts it at the M5. Not too bad considering it is much less than an M5. Then again, you are missing all those amazing ///M components.
