The results just came in:

I was awarded a SPJ (Society of Professioal Journalist's) National Mark of Excellence Award for Editorial Cartooning.

I won first in my region back in March (New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming) and then they sent me to nationals.

There was one National Winner (I will get him next year!!! :evil2 ) and then two national finalist's; myself and another cartoonist fool.

I am off to the National Convention in October to accept the award................................I am thinking a massive carivan down :devillook :rolleyes :D

There were 3100 students that entered the competition total: ranging from Sports writing (which one of my fellow writers won as well) to Best Daily Paper, etc.

Editorial Cartooning
• National Winner: Terrance L. Nowicki Jr., Western Washington University
• National Finalist: Andy Marlette, University of Florida
• National Finalist: Tony Poulson, University of Utah

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Society of Professional Journalists is pleased to announce the national winners of the 2004 Mark of Excellence awards. This year, collegiate journalists submitted more than 3,000 entries in 45 categories.

These national winners were previously recognized by receiving first place in one of 12 of the Society’s regional competitions. A complete list of winners and finalists can be found below.

“The winners of the SPJ Mark of Excellence awards represent the best in college journalism and certainly are the result of exceptional work on the part of those chosen for the awards,” said Jim Highland, SPJ vice president for campus chapter affairs. “These young people set the agenda of their college campuses, and they clearly demonstrate that college media are in excellent hands.

Tony those are really great looking man. Most excellent job.

BTW, the dakar is out and about. How's she running? All the little bugs out?

Tonus

The bugs were exterminated and all is well, although I still nedd to do the oil pan gasket because I still have a small leak. Other than that she pulls really hard. She really needs a good detail job so anytime you want to have your detail fest 2005 I am in!!!

Very cool! How long does it take you to do one of those Sketches?

To keep it cost productive for myself I try to do them in an hour or under. that includes: brain storming ideas, conception sketches, rough sketch, inking, and then marker.

It also depends on how much work I am doing at one time. I drew caricatures of the whole U basketball team and did them in a couple of hours.
