The course was well over 0.8 miles long (and super fast, think 60+ mph easy). I got owned up really bad, I guess everyone else decided to put their "A+" game cuz they really just crushed me on the 4th run. Go figure. I was stoked to know I had it right and the times were just dropping like a rock for me. (and yes, I did say "YES!" at the end of the final slalom on my 3rd run because I really hit it the way it should be). On my 4th run, you can see that I was drifting it some and you can also hear the really loud rumbling sound when I turn.. that is when your car is understeering, so wise up and take some steering out of the wheel to keep the car from understeering.

The camera was mounted here:

That looks like a hell of a lot of fun, but difficult.

Can we mount that on my car next event? I'd love to see the difference between Brian Hair and I driving. :)

I had a great time. I was the guy in the #13STU car in the background of your photo. I've never been to an SCCA event before and I was duly impressed at the setup. STU seems like it could be a fun place to run, especially if we keep cramming 4 cars into 0.3 seconds.

I'd like to view the videos, but I can't get them to play after they load. What format are you using for the video? I suspect a codec problem on my end and I'm just wondering what I need to fix.

They are wmf (windows media vid/aud files). They were originally AVIs.. just update your WMP to version 10 or something, and you should be good to go.

Yea, it's just Mike Neary that I have a hard time beating (namely cuz i am driving a freakin 4-door family sedan and not an STi).. If I can outdrive the field using a lesser car, well, the more the power to me ;)

m3hokie- it was your first scca event? i hope it wasn't your first autox because i got creamed by you (in my red M3) and ive been doing this for a couple of years. you must have natural talent cuz you were fast.

actually everyone beat me, i was last. but im getting better each time and hope to get closer to the rest of the pack in STU.

Honestly, I'm really still trying to figure this thing out. I went to Mazda RevItUp with some coworkers last year at FedEx and had a blast at what was my first exposure to performance driving in a real car. Several of us decided to do some autocross events after that and I ended up doing the last four BMWCCA events last year… two at the tiny Osbourn Park lot and two at Bowie. I had no freaking idea what I was doing, but I had fun. Undeniably hooked, I took the Phase I and II Evolution schools this spring, ran the first BMWCCA autocross this year, and now my first SCCA event.

I think that the BMWCCA autocrosses were a good way to start out for me because it is a lower key environment that I could use to figure out what the heck I was supposed to be doing. However, FedEx is such a great lot that I won’t be able to resist coming back… plus I crave the competition. Low key is fun for a start, but it’s more fun to have Sam Strano drive your car and then sit in the passenger seat and tell you what a moron you are!

Not having any R-compounds, STU is a godsend for me because it keeps me out of the local BSP shark tank and the previous owner of my car did a few too many mods for BS. So, I took off my x-brace hoping that STU will be a good place for me to start working on my car and my skillz. Here's to a fun battle for the rest of the year. :alright

yea, you M3 guys should be walking all over me and my silly family sedan.. I know it would be a REAL shame that my under-powered beats out the STis (cuz there is something seriously wrong with that picture being 50 whp less and 50 lbs less with even less sophisticated AWD system).

I will be retiring the GT after this year, so I am currently looking for a car to co-drive. Anyone in STU that would want me to co-drive with them, I will be sure to put up 1/2 the money for the tires (rear two for you M3 guys since I know there are the more expensive ones). How's that for a deal?

I really want to be competitive the more I think about it. I know I am already an underdog with the GT.. but I think if I am running this close to you guys, then whatever I have to prove is worth proving. At least if I win, I can say that your car has what it takes to win.
