View Full Version : Anyone live near a red line metro stop?
Mikey52 06-10-2005, 08:03 PM I might be working in DC again soon and this time I think Ill just get an apartment close to a metro. I want to stay in MD so that means red line. A friend of mine lives in Silver Spring which is decent (walking distance) but the parking situation there sucks. I was wondering if there were any decent, reasonable places on the other side (Rockville, Gaithersburg, Bethesda). Im thinking less than 1200, preferably 1000.
Eric? :)
AlfaEric 06-10-2005, 09:22 PM I've got one available right now but I think we will be renting it for $1300+ (I'll have to check on the price - 18th floor, renovated bath, appliances were bought just before the last tennant, etc). If anything opens up in your price range, I'll let you know.

This is in Bethesda, not DC. It includes indoor assigned parking, plenty of outdoor spaces (for people with multiple cars), indoor/outdoor pools, all utilities, cable, gym, tennis courts, sauna, gated security, 24 Hour Concierge, etc...

It still sucks though. :stickoutt The only reason Im going to interview for this job is so I can get some experience while I search for jobs elsewhere.
A $150k, 2-car garage house is looking mighty good to me. :cool

The smaller apartments in my building sometimes rent for 1050-1150. I just don't have any available right now. I moved here because of its location (and indoor parking). It is close to everything. :D
Where can you find a $150k house like that? I might be willing to commute... :devillook

Mr. Maboomba 06-11-2005, 10:30 AM Look at craigslist. Lots of listings there.

My friend..I do believe you are dreaming unless you want to live in the ghetto or in the corn fields. I have a 2400 sqft home with 2 car garage and I paid nearly twice that 4 years ago..it's worth twice as much today. Good luck anyway..you may find a surprise.

Life moves at a different pace in Frederick County.

Indeed, I was talking about Charlotte, NC, where I would like to find a job and move to. ;)
Frederick is no longer a cheap place to live. My neighbors sold their 4 bedroom, 2 car garage house with a little less than an acre for 370k last year. It is over 400k by now Im sure and we dont even live near 270.
Mr. Maboomba 06-11-2005, 02:38 PM True... I know people who are selling their houses in Frederick for a bundle and moving out to a larger house for cheaper in Washington County. Some people will commute for anything.

Good luck finding a $150K house, much less a $150K condo, unless you want about a 30-45 minute commute every morning. Unlike DC, living in the suburbs of Charlotte is boring. Unless you have a family and need the house and yard for the kiddies to run around, stay in town. Real estate appreciates much better in town.

Yeah sorry, I didnt mean in the city itself. I can handle 30-45 minutes. :cool

Charlotte.
Mikey look at the Parkside apartments in "North Bethesda" (aka Rockville) -- they are right at the grosvenor metro.

Ahh, you'll be part of the herd of urban sprawlers. :) I just like living in the city too much.

Commute's not that bad from the south -- where i live it takes 15-20 minutes in the morning and 25ish at night until about 6:30. After 6:30 it only takes 15 or so. Some friends of mine live in Fort Mill, SC and it only takes them 35 minutes to get to uptown charlotte in the morning. :dunno
The city is definatlely a much better location though -- and relative to DC, city real estate is actually cheaper than suburban real estate. I am looking at some condos in the south end that will be going on the market this month for $200k -- the same thing in the same proximity from DC would probably be a 3 times that.
Mikey52 06-13-2005, 12:14 PM Well unless they offer me a ridiculous amount of money, Im not taking it. :) I might still move though.
