I was driving today to my class in orlando and I was on I-4 and I was switching lanes and there on the dotted lines between the lanes was a giant ass piece of metal that I couldn't dodge. Bam I hit it square on and 3 of my airbags came out on me. So I coast over onto the shoulder and like am just in disbelief and cannot see because of all the airbag smoke because my windows were up and I stalled the car without even noticing. So I get out and not even a scratch on the front bumper, like how in the hell did the airbags come out without a scratch on the bumper. It looks like a couple of my under panels got cracked which isn't a big deal at all because they are only for aerodynamics. So the M3 is out of commision for awhile. Is this something Bmw should take care of since there is no damage to the front of the vehicle?

If it hit the car with enough force to trigger the airbags, I bet there are larger problems not visable upon intial inspection. The debris may have caused some damage on the underside or behind the bumper.

Strange there is no damage to the front bumper tho...

You can see where it stuck the engine cover and another panel thats all on the underbody. I called my service advisor over at the dealer and she told me all that needed to be done was the 3 airbags and 2 panels and thats all. $4000.00 is the dealers estimate. They make a killing on this kind of things.

Strange... I was in a car accident last August in my M3. Some kid going the other direction turned right in front of me. couldn't avoid it, T-Boned him at 30+ mph. No airbag deployment. $26k in damages to my car. He was able to drive his '79 POS Toyota pickup truck home at the end of the day.

Thank goodness for diminished value claims...

Yeah something had to have been misscalibrated in the air bag sensor. That really shouldnt of happened.
Thats great of BMWNA to cover such a thing. Alot of the smoke actually isnt smoke. Its talcom poweder that keeps the bag from sticking to itself since its packed so tightly. But there is some smoke i remember an accident a few years ago i was gagging on that stuff.

Did the air bag burn your wrists at all?
