View Full Version : The Subaru dealership made me very sad (becuase I liked it)

I have always respected and loved Subarus. The STI is a great car, and I love the look of the new Legacy. I was behind a silver Legacy today, and I figured, the dealership is close, I'll swing by after work to see if they have the feel to back up the looks.

Long story short: they more than have the feel to back up the looks.

I think that bimmers still look a lot better, but the Legacy is easily one of the top 10 good looking Japanese cars, and the best looking Subaru hands down. But the feel of the Legacy is better than that of the E46, even the E90. There, I said it.

Fit and finish is very good. Buttons aren't as intuitive, but you get the hang of them easily enough. Shifter is a little long, but nothing bad, clutch feel is good. And this thing HAULS!!! I drove the 2.5 GT model, which is a turbo charged boxer 4 that puts out 250hp and boy do you feel it! That car wants to go! With NO noticeable turbo lag either! Steering is also very tight. It revs pretty freely. I almost turned around and told the guy I wanted to take one for a longer drive.

The car handles like a dream too. It hugs the road with its symmetrical AWD. My car would have no chance against this one in the twisties.

I am really sad right now, because I really want one. I can't do it now, but maybe in a year from now, I'll trade in silver for one. They are great cars. You can get a new one fully loaded for under 30K and beat the pants off of any 330 that someone paid 45K for.

I don’t plan on leaving you guys, yet. But basically, BMW doesn’t have anything that can compete for the price. Not with low miles, that is. It doesn’t have the fit and finish or the refinement of the bimmer, the looks aren’t as good, I’m questionable on if it will last ½ as long as a bimmer would. But this car is solid. It’s a great little car. I recommend that anyone who is frustrated about the power or handling of your bimmer, or who is having trouble finding one they want that they can afford, go drive one.

I was behind one on a long twisty. Me and the other driver were both going hard and I could not pull him in with the 330i, it impressed me to say the least considering I thought I was going to walk all over him.

a WRX walked all over my friend's modded E36 M3 as if it were nothing at the track. Andanother WRX actually kept up with a 996 I was passanger in. I don't know what was under his hood. But it was very impressive.

They are not to be messed with. I've been reading a lot about them, and while they are no bimmer, but are more bang for the buck. I think I might just do it. I would love a royal blue on black wagon.

great cars, i loved the legacy too lauren.. but i perfer bmw gearboxes, that long of throws shouldnt be that notchy, and when i drove my friends wrx stage two with a ssk, it was a little rediculous getting from gate to gate. I like to have one as well, but the sedan.

they are by no means perfect. There are some creature comforts I wish they had. But it's still a great deal for the price.

STi's are nice though, although they also look kinda ugly/weird from some angle. My friend has one and it's a very fun car to drive

Gary, the Legacy gets 4 & 5 out of 5 star saftey ratings in every test. Maybe you should let your dad know.

I really like the new Legacy also, I would have got the RSK B4 instead of the bimmer, except Subarus are one of the most stolen cars here :(

As of now, I found a KILLER deal on an 05 S2000...

As of now, I found a KILLER deal on an 05 S2000...

The current lease is insane. I am seriously thinking about trading in the TL for a 2005 S2000. The price is too good to pass up. $365/month for 36 month lease with $0 down . . .

Basically, the lease reflects $4k off MSRP and a very low interest rate.

I found a lease wfor $239 a month with $3900 down for 36 months.

That sounds like pretty much the same deal, just with money down. You can also pay $299/month with $2500 down.

Never put big money down on a lease. You're just throwing away $$$.

Now, back to how someone could confuse a Fujisomething Heavy Industries built wagon for something other that a lesbian mobile...

I agree about the lease.

I have driven the Legacy GT Wagon. It is a damn nice wagon for the $$. I am a lesbian trapped in a man's body if that says anything . . .

I really like the LGT as well. Just a good package all around, and power is faily easy to make.

Stock they make about 192awhp, but with up-pipe and turboback exhaust and a refllash they make 275awhp. So figure in about $1500-$2k to make one of those outrun a stock E36 M3 with no problem.

A local guy made the 1/4 in the 13's with only a reflash of the stock computer.

I actually test drove one today, an AT but still. My opinion, the interior felt cheaper than my old E36 M3 I thought. Also when I stomped on the gas it felt like my old E36 M3 cab was faster too (or maybe it was just louder and felt faster). In fact, it took over a second for the power to kick in from a roll. I didn't try it from a dig, the salesguy was easily spooked by sudden bursts of acceleration unfortunately. My old M3 was an auto too btw. The scoobie didn't have that neck-snapping feeling though my old M had. However, it only had 14 miles on it so I think I need to test drive one that's broken in. Gotta drive the MT as well just to compare.

For the longest time I was thinking I would pick the scoobie over an Audi (B5 S4) but for now I think I would probably go with the S4 instead.

The car I test drove was also missing a lot of stuff. No one touch open/close moonroof. Passenger side mirror doesn't angle down on reverse. The only auto down was on the drivers window and no auto up on any of the windows. No xenons (are they an option?). Rear seats do not fold down. Those side view mirrors are the largest I've seen on a car though, they are almost SUV sized!

I always found scoobys to be deceptive in neck snapping due to the awesome awd. Things like a Caldina from toyota are a bit more neck snappy, but nowhere near as planted despite being awd also.

the power delivery of those cars is alot smoother than people expect which throws off the perception. The M3 is a very raw N/A engine. Also the AT hurts the delivery of the power too.

I have run one and pushed the car and I was surprised at how smooth it was and the speed could be easily deceiving.

I was running through some twisty back roads this weekend and I was pretty impressed at how quickly he could get through and the power coming out of the corners.

I test drove the LGT a while back and I wasn't all that impressed, IMO. It really didn't feel that fast to me compared to my E36 M3. I thought it would at least feel similarly fast, but it wasn't. The suspension was also really mushy and soft. A few months back I test drove a WRX wagon and the power was even less impressive but it felt a lot more nimble than the legacy.

And then there was the STI. I test drove it this weekend and bought it right there, on the spot. There is no comparison between the STI and any other suby. It just destroys them all by 1000%. Except in comfort.

My wife could care less for the LGT despite my minor obsession with it. Maybe I'll get over it when I start seeing more and more of them on the roads. She thinks it looks like any other sedan out there. She does like the Audi S4 however.

supposedly the Legacy STi is coming, but they haven't made it official. They say 350hp.

Even the normal Legacy GT shares the STi block but has different heads, turbo, intercooler, etc. It doesn't take much at all to get the legacy power over that of a stock STi. A guy I met in florida has been modding and had 350hp and now is changing some thing and putting in a GT35R and going for more like 500.

yeah, but i do hope you got the modding bug at least a little, a turboback exhaust and accessport (total of less than $2k) you can jump from 300 up to about 380. Thats alot of bang for buck.
