You too.

Are you going to try to make it to the grill out?

Check out the thread called Grill & Chill for the details.

Was in Columbia for a few days just prior to new years, sorry to have missed you folks, but I did get to play tag from Harbison to 217 with a silver E30 till whomever it was got off I-26 there.

Any plans for a bimmer get-together in the next few months? I have business every few months and family in Columbia, so I am down on a fairly regular basis.

We are having a get-together and grill out on Jan 14th. We plan on having these monthly as long as there is a venue for it. Check out the Grill & Chill (http://bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=460998) thread for more info. Also, hang around the forums, we are quite active here.

Had the BMW CCA meeting tonight at the Grecian Gardens in West Columbia. Yet again, PJ missed the meeting. Craig wasn't there either, so I didn't get to invite him to the grill out.

News: deadline is past already for the Post Holiday Recovery Party at the BMW Performance Center.

Nothin else really, it wasn't very exciting, we did discuss understeer, and whether Mini's are part of the BMW CCA.

Anyone know anyone that has a 635CSi that I can check out? I love them, but can never get close to a 5-speed. I have found a few auto L6's, but no manuals. I want to check one out, maybe go for a ride. There is no cure for my addiction. Will trade a 318ti (slightly used) for one....

Exhaust and LTW wheels?

It was dark and traffic was somewhat heavy till we got near Peak, so I'm not sure.

My friend Josh used to have a red 325is. Had LTW Wheels and a Remus exhaust. Sold it to fund his M3. I think Gourmet Garage got it.

gooten1
01-06-2006, 01:11 AM
Yeah yeah, M5. There's a beautiful one on AutoTrader... '91 model, with a few mods. He's quoting 375 hp, I think that may be a bit of a stretch...
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=193363680&dealer_id=57260705&car_year=1991&search_type=both&make=BMW&distance=0&model=M5&address=28659&certified=&advanced=&max_price=&bkms=1136522051492&min_price=&end_year=1991&start_year=1981&isp=y&lang=en&cardist=227#vdptop

I want it. But then again, I still love the 6'ers. That look...long and sleek, and fast as shit. Maintainence is a big deal, I know. I gotta learn, and Olin knows a lot, so if I were to get one, I'd ask him to become my sensei. The proverbial Mr. Miagi to my karate kid.

BimmerBoyZ3
01-06-2006, 11:32 AM
I'd rather have the M5. The m6's are at the age where rust issues are becomign a problem and body panels arent cheap. Also, the M5 is a little more familiar platform with a lot of mechanics. Also, depending on what 6 you go with, be prepared to forget everything you know about fuel management if it has carbs. Thats a whole new fat chick.

Lets set some rules first.

I think we need to set a HP/Weight ratio limit first, that way we are semi close in cars. Also, are we allowed to use our own cars that we have tuned, or straight from the arcade mode? Wanna say production cars only (no race cars, and no cars you cant purchase ingame)?

Makes no matter to me. . .but if we are going to do it like that. . .race car vs race car, etc . . . if we wanna be fair ;)

The mem card I have has EVERYTHING unlocked in the Arcade mode.

LOL I might drive my land yacht . . .Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi :)

Close to 750 hp, 4WD, and 4500lbs. . .LOL I would get smoked on the top end and in the corners. . . I need to set it up as a drift truck. . . LOL How about my ~800 hp Chevy Silverado? . . . .hmmm You know come to think of it. . . all I have are tuned trucks. . . :nono

I'm probably coming up to the autox anyway. I won't be competing, but I want to get a feel for it. It sucks working on the weekends, I can't take off enough days to be a real competitor.

We can do the grill out Saturday then head to Rock Hill Sunday. It's only about an hour from my house, so if you want to meet up and ride together, that would be great. I'm having a few other friends over Saturday evening, so it looks like a good time. If you want to play PS2, someone needs to bring theirs, I don't have one. I can bring out the old school Nintendo for some Duck Hunt competition or Excite Bike racing.

AutoX is in Summerville (Charleston). I might make it sat night, depends on what all I need to finish up before AutoX day. Not trying to punk you guys off, just trying to be a serious competitor this year in the region C-Stock class. Still new to the car, so I need all the tracktime I can get, thats why this No-Points event is a big deal to me.

Duston, PJ, where do you guys plan on meeting up and what time?

Well, we have to by there by 9 to make registration. Anyone know how long of a drive it is?

PJ, I need to talk with you about something, if you dont hear from me today on AIM, call me after classes (9pm)

8Ball, let me get with PJ on this and then I will get back to you about meetup points and times.

Where do you live in Cola?

8ball
01-31-2006, 02:56 PM
I live off 77 on Leesburg road. According to Mapquest Summerville is 100 miles away straight down 26. Isn't Fort Mill closer? If so I'd really prefer to drive there and instead. If I'm worng then cool let's do Summerville still, I just ain't all about driving 1.5 or 2 hours to possibly break my car and limp home.

PJ325i
01-31-2006, 03:28 PM
Fort Mill is closer . . .

But like Dustin said SCR is were the points are :D, but Summerville is non-points and we can see the potential competition.

Anyway, Sumerville is roughly 1hr, 1h10mins away.

8Ball, is the P/S fluid a dip or a stream. If it's a drip, that's an easy fix. Need to get some new washers, drain the fluid from the location of the drip, replace the washers, and refill. The washers on the rack and pump @ the banjo nuts are tempermental. If it's a stream . . . might need to check some hoses. I might have some free time next week, I'll let you know.

8ball
01-31-2006, 03:49 PM
No stream, just park the car and come out the next morning to fresh fluid puddle about 3 inches. I haven't got it up to see which hose or fitting it's coming from just notice that it's a new puddle each day.

As for the races I understand what you mean about our home region but not being points I was just looking for closest distance. May even be possible to go to Fort Mill Saturday for their test and tune and then Summerville on Sunday. That may be to much for you guys but I gotta play catch up to learn a new car.

PJ325i
01-31-2006, 04:52 PM

its 75 and they wave the registration fee for the autoX.

Fees are 20 for members, 30 for non members.

I understand the want to go to Fort Mill, but like PJ said, me and him are going to try to be contenders this year and want to scope out the competition. Plus SCR has a very, lets say, unique way of doing their courses, and I have yet to see it done anywhere else. So I want to get back into the swing of their style.

Ive got to work Sat so the fort mill test and tune wont be good for me. Plus I need to spend the little time I have off prepping and removing items from the car.

Im pretty set on going to the Summerville AutoX.

BTW, anyone have a helmet? :devillook

BimmerBoyZ3
01-31-2006, 06:16 PM

Kewl, I probably need to beg for a helmet also unless they have loaners there. I ordered mine but no guarentee it will be here before Sunday. Atlanta region have 5 or so helmets there as loaners but it was a large region with lots of funds so I don't know if that is the norm or not.

SCR usually has loners, but PJ has one, I might have one (if I buy it or borrow one from my bike buddy) so there should be plenty. Plus I believe we are all in different classes, so even 1 helmet should be okay. Just hope we all have the same size heads.

AutoX went great. Had 92 cars run at the event. Lots of good cars, even a Lotus, though the guy hadnt learned to fully drive the car yet. Nice people there too. And as always, SCR-SCCA had their stuff together and it ran smoothly.

As far as the people who went, it was me, Mike (8Ball), and PJ (PJ325i).

I placed first in C-Stock

Mike placed first is D-Street Prepared

and PJ got forth in Street Mod.

PJ had some stiff competition in his class. But it was a big blast. Next one is on Feb 18th in Orangeburg, SC. Hope more can make it this time.

Soon as the results are up on SCR, I will post a link.

There are some charleston people. They just dont come to the regional section a lot. You should have come to the summerville autox and met some of the guys. There were a few bimmers there. They should be at the OBurg autoX if you wanna show.

Peak has a few roads that are out in the country. The best place to run your car worry free is at a local autox. You get to push the car, and can even pass the limits without much risk. And you dont have to worry about law enforcement.

gooten1
02-11-2006, 04:08 PM
I can show you a few roads...they're free. I live out in Blythewood (10 minutes north of downtown) and there are plenty of back roads. There are a few out in Chapin, but I prefer to go out towards Lugoff and Camden, there seems to be less law enforcement out that way.

Its free till you get caught, then you have to pay booking fees, bail, impounding fees, court fees, fines and possible lawyer fees. Trust me, its not fun either. Ive been there and hit with charges. For 30 bucks, you can go balls to the wall and not worry about damaging your car or anything like that at a local autoX. Or go to the drag strip if you wanna push it in a straight line.

Well, if anyone plans on coming to hang out at Harbison in Columbia, a few of us are planning on moving to the other side. The cops keep on harassing us over at the AC Moore/Sonic, so we're going to the Target parking lot across/down the street. Still within reach of food, but hopefully on the other side of that jurisdiction line. We're going to give it a shot to see how it works out Friday night, 9:30-until...

I am pretty sure they don't. The lines are pretty crazy around there...I talked to a Lexington County mounty, and he says they squiggle all over the place. Lex. Co. does have full jurisdiction, but not really sure about City of Columbia. One block over, it's Irmo, down the road it's Richland County...

But on a sure note, I figure if we change locations, at least that'll get rid of the primary cause of them kicking us out, which would be the dictators of AC Moore bitching about us.

Im 100% sure CPD has juristiction there. It was a big arguement a few years back in Irmo whether Harbison was part of Irmo, and then they redrew the lines to make it all part of Columbia. But yes, hopefully Target will be a little more lenient.

On a side note: I may be buying in as a partner to a aftermarket parts company, so if you guys need mods, you need to come to me to help pay my bills. :redspot

Mike, do you have a spare 4 lug e30 wheel I could borrow for an extended amount of time. I am picking up my e30 project in a few weeks, and he only has 3 wheels for it (using his spare as the 4th). If you dont mind me borrowing it until I get a set of wheels for the car, it would be aprreciated. I will buy you lunch at the next AutoX or something.

Well since I got 11 wheels and tires from PJ when I bought my E30 yeah I think I got a spare or 3. No problem. You wanna swing by or you want me to bring it to BMW? Also, I'm still pretty sure you are getting that shell but I found a beautiful roller, complete without motor only. Black with cardinal red leather. Now I think the interior is horrible but it's in good condition and complete. I'm trying to haggle a price out of him because he wants to strip it for parts but either way if you need something he will have it off that one. It's in Florida of course so needs to be towed up if anyone is interested. Ellen said I can't have a non running car. :( I was gonna go crazy on an engine swap but that's not gonna happen now. I just mention this all if you need parts in the very near future or you wanted to spend some cash to get a closer to finished project car.

Nah, I get this roller for free, and besides, its going to be a track car mainly, so half the interior is stripped for me. Plus Im still up in the air about a motor, leaning to the m50, so I woulda had to do a swap, so the motor is already gone for me. For free, Im not complaining at all.

Just bring the wheel to BMW and I will get it then.

Don't ever expect BMW insurance to be reasonable. I learned that the hardway when I went from an '02 Z06 vette to a damn 540 and my insurance went up. It makes no sense, I'm damn sure less likely to wrap the 540 around something and I believe if they were parked side by side I know which one I would steal and it wouldn't have a roundel on it. Only thing I can figure is the parts to fix one jack the insurance up, that and all the damn airbags.

Dustin, I'm sure you know it's all about the life of the engine. I've read posts of people doing 600 but that's probably not streetable, possibly just from drag. Why do you want to use the 4cyl? Are you worried about room to run the piping? Just makes more sense to me to use a 6cyl for better torque and spooling. Then again most people with turbo's don't much care about torque. Just a thought.

Its a lot to do with size, and room for a bigger turbo. I also got a great deal on the motor. I mean a GREAT deal. PJ will chime in to back me up, but I wanna keep the price under wraps for now till the deal is fully complete. Ask me about it at BMW for details. Also, its going to get bored and stroked to a 2.2L motor. So its going to be a big 4cyl. Also, weight was an issue. Weight and balance. With the 4cyl the motor will sit further back in the chassis and weigh a good 200-300lbs less than a 6. And we all know what 200-300lbs equates to, so its less HP I need to make to move the car. But the main reason is the deal I got on the motor.

really bad, just not for the crazy prices that most go for, I am always like a day late on the deals. Do you know where one is, I want local, because I refuse to pay $100+ just for shipping, since every single one is always on the west coast. I would also like to know a good machine shop. I will eventually be needing and acid dip, bore/hone, valve job, port and polish, deck the head, knife-edge the crank, and balance the crank and rods.

Zionsville Autosport (http://www.zionsvilleautosport.com/store/shop.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=6134&Product_Code=3.03.2SK&Category_Code=CKE) makes a 2.8L stroker kit.

BMW M50 engine "2.8 liter stroker kit" including (1) crankshaft, (6) pistons, (6) wristpins and (6) connecting rods. This is a "drop in" replacement for a 2.5 liter M50 engine but increases displacement by .3 liters and reduces the piston/rod weight by 67 grams per cylinder. Main and rod bearings are identical to 2.5 liter parts and the pistons are the same diameter. Using BMWs average horsepower/liter of displacement ratio, this change calculates to +22.5 horspower.

For $495 it doesnt seem like a bad deal for everything.

The getrag 260 bolts right up to the M5X and S5X motors. :buttrock

The only thing you have to account for is the 10* difference to the right (passenger side) . . . ie custom shifter and custom tranny mount.

And it can handle plenty as it was the same tranny in older big six cars (E28 535i). And don't forget about the Turbo E30 guys still using their stock Getrag 260 :)
