View Full Version : New MF Towel Source
95RogueM3 06-06-2005, 08:34 PM I had recently been searching for a place to buy a good number of Micro-Fiber towels, but everywhere I looked seemed to charge way too much for a simple 16x16 MF towel..
I posted on bimmerforums awhile ago, and a member had mentioned www.fiber-works.com as a good site for quality MF towels. I had looked at one point a few months ago, but the site appeared to be down. I kinda forgot about the site until recently when I wanted to order a bunch of towels.
I ordered just about everything on their site and when I unpackaged everything, this is what I had sitting in front of me:
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wOTU3NTQzNnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg
Pictured at the bottom is their large Waffle Weave towel (I actually found this much much more absorbent that the Cobra Waffle Weave towels I had been using from AutoGeek). Its a very nice quality towel (I love that it is silk-trimmed) and really is offerred at a great price for what you are getting. Also shown is their assortment of polishing towels, and the small pink glass MF towel. All of the towels looked to be of very high quality and turned out be better than they looked.
On the right are the Micro Fiber Wash Mitt (something new to me, but it seemed every bit as gentle as my usual SheepSkin mitt), the MF Drying Mitt(seemed like an odd concept, but I like its ability to be easily wrung out while drying, and you can get a great amount of the car dry with just this one mitt), and lastly the MF applicator pad (didnt get even slightly loaded up when I was applying my sealant, and worked far better than do the regular yellow applicator pads).
I used these towels and mitts in the detailing of my brother's audi, posted about in another thread.
If you are familiar with PakShak and their towel quality, you will know exactly what to expect out of your FiberWorks towels, with the exception of one towel. The FiberWorks Gold Buffing Towel (silk trimmed) is crazy-absorbent. I could feel my hand being really grabbed by the fibers, and it buffed off the sealant haze extremely well, without needing to be constantly refolded or ever feeling overloaded with product.
However, unlike PakShak, the pricing seems really reasonable for MF towels. They are on average $2 less than PakShak towels, and every bit as good, if not better.
Hope you guys find this useful, as I will continue to use FiberWorks when ordering MFs.
lane911 06-06-2005, 09:01 PM Great find!
I am gonna just order the full kit
Casebrius 06-06-2005, 09:02 PM How do they compare to Sam's club Micro-tex towels? $12 for 18 towels is tough to beat. Most who have bought them say the quality is very good.
shawn5096 06-06-2005, 09:07 PM thanks for the referal  , ill be ordering some soon :). Would you say that one waffle weave is enough to dry the whole car?

It was for me. I use my hand to sheet off alot of the excess water sitting on the paint, and then the waffle weave to take care of the excess.
Regarding the quality, I am not sure how they compare to the Sam's club towels, but I have been a big fan of the PakShak towels and these were, as I said, equal to, if not better than the PakShaks for a better price.
shawn5096 06-07-2005, 10:56 AM I have been using the ones from walmart i think those are the microtex :confused . But looking at the pictures i want to start using something with higher quality, and i been trying to find a place that can sell them at a resonable price (other than the micro tex ones). And my post was for you 95RougeM3, i just left it on the reply to thread page too long and Casebrius posted before i did, my apology for any confusion :D .
Casebrius 06-09-2005, 07:35 AM Chemical Guys have some pretty good looking MF for $1.75 each for the extra thick ones. Has anyone tried them?
sirtiger 06-09-2005, 09:46 AM tks for the info... looks like its worth lookin at.:D
I went to Costco yesterday and they sell really good looking high grade MF towels in a 20 pack for like $12-13. It said it was for detailing cars and other crap. They sold two diff brands at the store. One was a 20-pk while the other was less. I dont remember the quantity but it was a few bucks cheaper. The 20-pk was a better deal and they seemed really nice. They were yellow.
I alos picked up a big ass 120oz Meguiar's Gold Class car wash soap for like $8 at Costco.

GHILL 06-09-2005, 10:42 AM The Costco microfiber towels are not that good. I used them for car at first. They put lint everywhere. After washing them they were pretty hard and still put lint. I now use them only on my wheels and the door and trunk jambs. I now use quality towels from Autogeek and properautocare.com.

I had received an Email from Ranney about a month ago with some discount pricing, but couldnt remember where I put it. I am a HUGE lurker on Autopia (only have like 12 posts though), and thats why I have suddenly become so poor. :( :stickoutt
Thanks for posting up the pricing to PakShak..their pricing does look good. M3Ryder (Chris) told me about Fiber-Works and I am pretty glad he did.
I got a follow-up email from David @ Fiber-Works asking how I liked all the products he sent me, and I actually forwarded him on the links to some of the threads I created about the towels. He had mentioned possibly setting up some kind of discount for members outside of Autopia. (I guess to be even more competitive with Ranney's Autopia pricing. :buttrock ) Maybe he will jump in and answer any questions or mention a discount code..

Thanks for the link to those towels..and is it bad that that pic of your towels made me smile? :stickoutt I already have 2 Cobra WW towels, and now the Fiber-Works WW towel..I think I might add one more WW and call that collection done. (I am not a professional so I cant buy my supplies with "customers money"..and I usually only wash one car in a day so I can always wash and dry the towels in time for the next detailing.)

If he does set up his prices close to ranneys, I will put in a order for some. Its always nice to have a big variety of towels. I lurk a lot on autopia too...probly have about 100 posts over the year or two.
~ I am no way a professional. I am just an enthusiast and do a little bit of detailing on the side to help my disease.

I just got an email from David..I guess he has been watching this thread and he said he would be willing to offer BimmerForums Members a 12% discount :buttrock
He said just go to the site www.fiber-works.com , place an order and at checkout enter the code: BIMF29HP
Im looking forward to getting another order in this week.
donoman 06-09-2005, 04:22 PM Guys,
I just plan on washing, drying, polishing (once in a blue moon) and waxing(or sealing). Why would I need so many different types of towels? Can someone suggest a starter kit for me? I don't think I need a MF sponge, do I? The starter kit on the f-w website is like 6 different towels. I'm thinking I'll need 1 to dry, and maybe 3 to polish & wax.

I would probably get 2 towels for drying (Waffle Weave is pretty much solely used for drying, whereas the other towels can be used for drying as well)
Then get another towel (buffing, or polishing) for wax/sealant removal. You might also look into a MF applicator (I like mine more than the yellow applicators I used to use).
My starter Kit would be:
2-Waffle Weave
1-Polishing/Buffing Towel
1-MF Applicator
donoman 06-09-2005, 05:16 PM Thanks Rogue!

I'd probly have at least two or three polishing/buffing towels. Towels can get loaded up with excess product pretty quick...you wouldn't want to be stuck with no towel now.
Oh yeah. Be sure to say thank you to David, its very kind to offer that to bf.c members.
Casebrius 06-14-2005, 01:03 AM Good WW deal, $14.40 shipped for (2) 20"x40" coupon code 'Autopia'
