View Full Version : A UT Discussion: 2006 Porchy Cayman - DISCUSS
SehrSchnell 06-06-2005, 03:34 PM Whatchuthink?
Discuss por favor.
There's something about the back roof line that reminds me of the Audi TT, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
0-60 is 5.1, sounds like the D-Vess could possibly give it a run, but the lines are most exotic. The Ultimate question for me is: Will Johnny be able to fit in this Porshe? :(

Antwerp 06-06-2005, 03:38 PM The hotter question would be; would Johnny WANT to fit into it?
I was hoping it would be a little sportier than what they are claiming...
Edit: Of couse Porchy is always quite conservative with thier time-to-speed ratings...

Johnny loves cars. Johnny changes cars every so often, like his socks. Johnny is open to new and exciting ventures. If the price was right, the shoe fit, it floated my boat, and something happened to steer me away from BMW's, I would consider (as I would any car). How's that for a dubious answer. :D
Antwerp 06-06-2005, 03:47 PM Very Adequate Explaination.
I bet that 3.4L could be putting out 320 HP with some simple mods, it's probably just a detuned Carrera Engine...
I'll be anxious to see one in person... :devillook
This looks like an awesome fun car to drive. If I ever were to leave BMW because I don't like their new styling, Porsche would be a great alternative.
But I'm concerned that guys like Johnny and I would actually fit in that thing. :lol
///Molloy 06-06-2005, 04:27 PM I just dont like the name... cayman... It makes me want to say captain CAVEMAN.
VitSports6 06-06-2005, 04:31 PM Looks to have a larger rear window, Also looks like they are trying to tie the Boxter and this one together by looking at the rear, I dont know If I like the bubble top :confused
Interesting but Im not too teribly impressed, Not that I could afford one ;)
Good luck

chasmanbmwfan 06-07-2005, 12:08 AM With an estimated price at $60k, it would make sense to spend another $10k and get the 997 with 0-60 in 4.8s (add $15k to both of those numbers for a couple of options). I really like the lines on the 997.
YLOJAKT 06-07-2005, 10:21 AM I noticed that the 350Z hardtop has a look that is almost the same from the side. I was in traffic last night and caught one from the side waiting to turn. Different nose and rear geometry, but similiar in bubble. :confused
SehrSchnell 06-07-2005, 05:39 PM 60K eh? Hmm. I will stick to Le' BMW then. I'm sure 60-65ish would buy a E90 M3.
chasmanbmwfan 06-08-2005, 05:44 PM Is it true the Cayman S will be packing 500 ponies?
chasmanbmwfan 06-08-2005, 05:49 PM Porsche has released the first official photos of the all-new Cayman S sports coupe.
The Cayman S will be powered by a 295-bhp 3.4-liter flat-6 engine that features the same VarioCam Plus variable valve timing system as the new 911 Carrera. The 6-speed manual from the Boxster S, reworked for shorter throws, is standard, with a 5-speed Tiptronic S automatic as an option. Other standard items include dual exhaust and 18-in. wheels.
According to Porsche, the Cayman S will travel from 0-62 mph in 5.4 seconds with the manual and achieve a top speed of 171 mph.
Thanks to new hatchback configuration, rear storage is double that of the Boxster’s rear boot.
The 2006 Porsche Cayman S will be base priced at $58,900, excluding destination fees, and should arrive in U.S. dealerships in January 2006.
Read about it here in Road & Track (http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=9&article_id=2281)

for a moment there I thought you took up drinking.
No way would their mid-entry level model produce more power than their high-end turbo line and supercar series :confused
You must have been thinking of the 2005 2-Ton Chevy Diesel Pickup aptly called, the Caveman.
chasmanbmwfan 06-08-2005, 05:58 PM CAVEMAN! :buttrock
///Molloy 06-08-2005, 06:00 PM Charles, has anyone ever told you that you sort of resemble a younger Nick Cage? :buttrock I think its cool. He loves p-cars too.

chasmanbmwfan 06-08-2005, 06:16 PM One of our associates told me of the 500 hp Cayman S. I just fired him for not checking his facts before reporting to me.

"younger" Nick Cage? Now that's a compliment! I bet I'm actually older than he is. Yea, I get that a fair amount. Not sure what to make of it, although he plays some pretty cool characters in movies.
SehrSchnell 06-08-2005, 09:19 PM Jerry Seinfeld is also a big Porsche fan.

He insists there was this article in the new Road & Track about cars with over 500 hp, and that the Porsche (Cayman, he thought) was one of them.
He's looking for a new job now.
